Yesterday in Wellington we got emergency alerts, as was appropriate. On Vodafone I got one, on Skinny my wife got three. Did anyone else get multiple alerts? It's not the end of the world, just annoying.

 

The alerts on Android aren't done very sensibly. They make a hell of a noise, and the only way to make it shut up is hit "ok", but then they disappear. I know where to find the history to view them, but I bet most people don't. Android really needs a "quiet so I can read the alert" button.

One on Vodafone for each of two phones on the network, one on 2degrees. And one on a phone with no SIM card at all.

A quick press on one of the hardware volume buttons made my phone(s) stop being noisy; but didn't dismiss the alert.

Interesting - the phone I am testing here actually read the message aloud for me after a couple of chirps. Android 11.

Both of our Nokia phones always read out the alert messages.

I hit the "ok" button to stop the noise so I don't know if my pixel 4a would read it or not. It was a Moto G8 I think that got it multiple times.

My Nokia has always given a couple of bursts of the shrill then read the message out loud.  Someone told me on their iPhone the alert will inherit the current volume/mute setting? To me that totally defeats the "emergency" nature of those alerts.
