Hi folks. I need to get a SIM card for a gate - how do we go through the initial setup for those? Do we have to use a standard phone or can someone do it in store (I don't have any phone that would use a standard size SIM card)?

I just pop out the nano Sim from the full size Sim, setup in a phone and then push it back into the Full Size Sim.

You mean to say that not everyone has a drawer full of old phones that take all SIM sizes?

The Spark person activated and loaded the balance in store for me. Solved.

Not quite. It did not work. Then realised the gate is 3G 2100 and Spark is 3G 850 in that area.

So off to a Vodafone store today to get a VF SIM...

Thanks. This time the Vodafone person activated the SIM from her computer, so all good.

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

Ok... curiosity has got me... what is this gate that needs a Sim card? An alarm or something?

My first ever AM radio network connection was with a 1MHz AM crystal(OA91) radio receiver.

It's basically an intercom but instead of using a radio link to a receiver inside the house, it places a mobile voice call to a programmed number. When you push the button at the gate the in-laws receive a phone call on their (mobile) phone.

Basically, it's a $ 0.49 fee paid by the homeowner to a telco when someone pushes the button and announce themselves but for their lifestyle and needs it works (except when they let the prepay SIM expire for not reloading credits into it).

@freitasm

I'd quite like an intercom at my gate but its impossible to get any wiring to it now.

It does have power already, a keypad for manual gate open/close and a button that makes a buzzer go off in the house.

But no intercom.

Could you please provide a link for this?
