Spark staff given 'de-escalation' training before Havelock North cell tower site installation

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/spark-staff-given-de-escalation-training-before-havelock-north-cell-tower-site-installation/3VZ4WO4WQQHPYSTL6QRDAVQA2M/

(paywalled)

But basically Spark have allocated security staff to the construction site after a contractor got a bloody face after violence in 2019.

What are your thoughts? Mine is what has bought on so much violence in recent times? Misinformation?

Lack of critical thinking.

I'd agree Misinformation is a big factor here. If you consider that some people consider the tower a real and serious health threat to themselves. Then the level of anger is more understandable. It's just very sad that there is such a lack of understanding and how hard it is to help with. I've run into people who think wifi makes them sick in the past and it's pretty much impossible to explain the problems with their concerns in a way that really sinks in...

Rather depressing..

Although that said I had my second Covid Jab last week and yesterday it rained and I got a parking ticket... coincidence ....I think not..:) ...

Unfortunately people often put 2 and 2 together and the internet tells them the answer is 6,000,000...

Training is possible to assist in exposing the protesters thuggery and undermining their cause.

The violence at the Kennedy Point marina protests would have worked in the developers favor if the contractors/security had not been giving it back as good as they got it.

People adopt a cause as part of their identity. That makes them more passionate about it. It also makes them less likely to be objective about it. A worrying trend in society is that the truth is what you believe, not what physically happens.

The people stopping the work are the Karens that would call and complain that mobile data is slow or coverage is poor

I would put a lot of the blame for that quite clearly on the doorstep of the orange buffoon.

Misinformation might cause someone to have misguided beliefs, but it doesn't explain those beliefs being transferred into violence and aggression.

I would say it's more a case of people becoming disengaged from mainstream society, and building up anger as a result. These 'causes' such as anti-5G and anti-vax are just convenient outlets for that anger.

That havelock north site for spark was on a corner site of a busy roundabout, and certainly wouldn’t have been any more ugly than any other power pole mounted sites.

The irony is the fact there is a 2 degrees tower about 400 meters from this one (it off the road but still visible!)

Why didn’t protest about the 2d tower??

This kind of mistaken and misinterpreted information was around even before cell phones. I'm thinking there's some new in this phenomena.

And don't understand that they are exposed to other radio waves 24/7. People are happy with owning a radio, tv, cordless phone, microwave etc - but not a cellphone.

No common sense and being a sheep is becoming the biggest problem.
