Quick story, I'm trying to set up ADSL (all that is available in Tolaga Bay)

Had Chorus vist and set up the line

Skinny sent a modem...

DSL up and no PPP

skinny tell us to rest the modem... ok. Same thing

Skinny send a new modem... same thing

Skinny send Chorus. Every thing works fine with their setup and the tech tells us the modem needs configuring ... no PPP

skinny says they will send another new modem... Nah what settings should it have I ask.

after 4 days i get...wait for it... "Reset the modem"

Now I would really like some help here. This isn't my house. I am the person paying the bill  and am arranging it for technophobe relatives

Anyone Know what the setup should be for skinny ADSL modem?

PS: when they sent the courier bag for the 1st modem to go back it wasn't big enough for the box...... you have to wonder  2 weeks so far

Cheers

Matthew

Hi, in the PPPoA setup you need to put in a user and pwd, pretty much anything can go in those fields, if they are blank it wont work.

However I would have thought a provided modem would be all ready to go.

me too... Part of the problem is I'm in Dunedin and my relatives don't have sufficient data on their mobile to enable me to remote in and have a good sniff about.

Are their mobiles with Skinny too? If so perhaps ask for some complimentary data to use for the troubles.

Wrong bag/box size for the modem doesn't really inspire confidence. Do you know what the model number of the modem is?

Here's the settings for Chorus wholesale ADSL for what it's worth:

Since the Chorus technician modem works, perhaps just go out and purchase a similar ADSL router from a second hand store.

No luck with them being on Skinny too, and being in tolaga by everything takes a few days to get to them. They are using a VRV9517 Smartmodem.. looks standard for Spark

I might have to pay for some data for them so I can at least remote into the laptop and see what I can see

getting there,

I managed to get them to hotspot me in... first thing i noticed is that the encapsulation was incorrect

(so long since I worked with ADSL) what else could be wrong?

Is there DSL sync or not??

Have you tried this?

https://www.spark.co.nz/help/internet/set-up/non-spark-modem/

It's essentially the same for Skinny.

Pinging @cbrpilot may be best person to look into this.

I'm intrigued as to who is issuing "Remote message: EUBA Session already up". Are there multiple lines or modems in the house?

This is very odd for sure, be interested to see what the outcome is. Surely the default ADSL settings couldn't be botched on the Skinny smart modem firmware? I actually have one at home, might have a look tonight out of interest.
