Hi, I am thinking of switching to Spark but would like to retain my Fritzboxes setup. Currently I have 3 fritboxes doing mesh network. I don't want to make too many changes but when I talked to Spark Sales team, they said the Fritzbox will not work with Spark Broadband. Can someone tell me whether this is true or not?

thanks

Not true, shouldn't need to change any settings as both 2D and Spark are PPPoE with vlanid=10.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

Not sure why you'd want to. Spark lacks IPv6 and has dramatically inferior peering, so you'll see much worse latency to a number of services (depends on route packets take under Spark).

Spark use PPPoE VLAN10 and authenticates by ASID. therefore the username and password is irrelevant so it will just churn and work

Just make sure you are not on a router rental agreement with 2degrees else you may see an unexpected bill from them

Thanks for all the replies.

Sorry I am not a technical guy so not too sure whether technically the mentioned issues will affect us. We are just ordinary household with perhaps 4 members streaming / watching Youtube most of the time. Wife and I both working from  home connecting to companies' network. Casual gamer playing Genshin Impact.

Main reason for change is that 2degrees contract is up, and will be paying $96 per month. Spark is $100 but with Netflix + Airpoints.

And Yes, we have a fritzbox on rental so will need to return.

Any comments in light of what I just said above will be appreciated. thanks.

I phone up 2degrees and ask them what they’re able to do every time my contracts up - I start with the going new customer deal and often get something close to it. It’s a win-win as they keep getting revenue from me and I pay a cheaper rate.

Just note with what is going on in NZ currently wait times for any provider may be a bit longer.

I’d also compare between Skinny and Spark - they’re the exact same provider and network but different pricing. Skinny often have X months free which may outweigh the offer from Spark.

Skinny requires skill to remove the VLAN tagging tho

As @michaelmurfy said, ring 2degrees. If you like 2degrees' service then don't move. We have just reupped for 12 months and they lowered our price and gave us free this and that for 6 months. You will have to ring and speak to someone.

Thanks for all the advice. I ended up ringing 2 degrees and get similar deals as new customers while getting same monthly price as before!
