Is it just me or are xtra having some serious DNS issues this morning - like not being able to resolve any .xtra.co.nz addresses....

Tried to ring thier help desk but they are expericing "heavy load" so maybe its not just me.

I cant resolve any .xtra.co.nz address from thier or anyone elses DNS servers...

Ouch.

Can't connect to xtra.co.nz from the interw3bs so they are obviously suffering a major outage.

I'm with Xnet.. can't ressolve xtra.co.nz or yp.co.nz or whitepages.co.nz. Even using an online ping service based overseas. (Which eliminates Xnet. Yay!)

VERY annoying.

I'm using Xtras DNS servers on my broadband connection. It seems that I can look up other domains successfully (ie. Geekzone, Microsoft, Google, even telecom.co.nz), but xtra.co.nz returns no record.

Saturday, 24 January, 9:20 AM, having the same sort of problems. Can't resolve either pop3.xtra.co.nz or send.xtra.co.nz from within the Xtra network. (219.89.135.xx)

Same experience with "heavy usage" contacting the help desk, with the added bonus of obnoxiously loud Music on Hold. I'd imagine trying to capture IP addresses would be futile, at least in the long run. Xtra used to move their servers around regularly and at least the pop server is aliased somewhere else.

Note that there have been no outage reports in the last several days. An added benefit or their customers not being able to reach representatives, no doubt.

24 January 9:47 AM

Got through to customer service. Was told their network was down and that they were working on it. When I asked how come there was no notice anywhere of the outage I was assured that there was both a phone message when calling the help line and notification on their web site, neither or which I could 'share in the user experience' personally. My apologies to the customer service representative who sounded somewhat exasperated when I snickered. Wouldn't want their job for the world.

Issues were detected this morning and have been ongoing since with some services restored.
No ETA at present.

I've been able to access the mail servers since around noon.   The above mentioned whitepages.co.nz still fails a name lookup for yellow.co.nz.

Really? Because I can.

joshf@punisher:~$ host -t a whitepages.co.nz alien.xtra.co.nz
Using domain server:
Name: alien.xtra.co.nz
Address: 202.27.184.3#53
Aliases:

whitepages.co.nz has address 210.55.1.5
joshf@punisher:~$ host -t a yellow.co.nz alien.xtra.co.nz
Using domain server:
Name: alien.xtra.co.nz
Address: 202.27.184.3#53
Aliases:

yellow.co.nz has address 210.55.1.4

Same with the caching servers:

joshf@punisher:~$ host -t a yellow.co.nz dnsc1.xtra.co.nz
Using domain server:
Name: dnsc1.xtra.co.nz
Address: 202.27.158.40#53
Aliases:

yellow.co.nz has address 210.55.1.4

May be your end?
