Gidday,

I just got my monthly account, and low and behold, I’ve got several charges for sending Trade me URLs to Android phones (from iPhone). Haven’t really noticed this in the past. Is this something the iPhone has recently changed with somehow converting to an MMS, or is Spark just trying to find a new rev streams? Pretty average nonetheless.

If anyone knows how to get around this/why it’s happening, that’d be greatly appreciated.

Length is probably going over 160 chars so converting to an MMS to send the longer message?

SparkNZ is only billing for what the handset is sending. Not related to Sparks revenue streams in anyway at all

Nah, well short than 160 chars. And texts don't get turned into MMS until they've reached 5 messages (800 chars)

Yeah, I figured, still pretty shite nonetheless. No doubt it's an iPhone thing, but assuming something's changed in the last couple of months.

Interesting, last month I had a 40 cents charge for "2 Text Service" which I have no idea what it is.

Those sound like premium texts. Everytime I text to confirm an appointment, it's 20c a text

That's new. Pretty sure I didn't pay for those before.

Thats why I refuse to do that and instead call them since that's free for me. Absurd to not have a link to confirm things in an SMS.

In a day and age where almost every plan has unlimited calling and texting to any cell/landline in AU/NZ, it baffles me that short code sms replies and MMS are still priced like Theresa Gattung was still in charge.
