I m looking for a good 850mhz band smartphone of windows mobile. Such as htc diamond. But I don't think telecom will have that one. I can't find many phone with that band. Telecom chose a bad choice with very limited selections of handsets

If you think that Telecom chose "a bad band" you're free to switch to a company that uses a 'better one'. At the moment, there are many many UMTS 850 handsets out there for purchase... especially in the Windows Mobile arena when you compare the availability to that of UMTS 900 handsets.

ANYWAY..

Go here, this page shows over 50 Windows Mobile devices that will work on the new Telecom Network.

with a few of those only the "american version" seems to have 850mhz coupled with 1900 as apposed to 900/2100. are these ones still gonna work?

cheers

you would have to get the american 850 version...

I am praying that telecom seriously rethinks its plans at launch as i would really like to port my number but the current plans are really really poor.

Yes. Telecom's new network will have 850MHz coverage everywhere. If your handset supports this frequency, it will work.

Speaking of US phones, I'd love a N95-3 US version with that 850MHz band. I may have to look on Ebay as I've seen none come up on Trademe, was hoping to find a cheapie someone had bought mistakenly but all seemed to be simply fake.

yea i hope some of those "us" phones become "us and nz" phones soon, as its abit of a risk buying a expensive phone in the us and not having any warranty (my phones have a bad track record).

Ebay can be quite a bit of hassle as some sellers gouge shpping charges and of course the same "fake item" danger is there. I would try and source one locally, I'll update if a seller come to light.

I'm used to my current n95, the integrated SIP function and the camera but also want the good value of Telecom flexi and Telecom reliability.

They have dummy phones of a Nokia 3120c, Nokia 6600 slider and a Nokia e71. There are also pictures of the Sony Ericsson w705a and the Blackberry Bold up, too.
