I was in the Silverdale (Auckland) Telecom store (just refitted) today and they had a  interesting promotion going..
The deal was, you trade in your old vodafone phone + sim card and sign up to a 24 month term contract at $45.00 a month, you recieved a $300.00 credit and a bottom of the line XT mobile (there are also ment to be phone upgrade options coming soon i.e spend $$$ and recieve this phone.

I thought it was a very good deal I was only there for a couple of minutes and wasnt to find out anymore info.

They also had 6 mobile phones on display (i think these are the right models...):
Nokia E71
Blackberry bold 9000
(Some other type of blackberry phone i think)
Sony ericson c510
palm Treo Pro
(SE walkman slide phone possibly W705)

Also there are meant to be 15 Devices available at the launch..

Sounds like the deal would be Free handset (I wonder what brand it will be?) on "Flexi Anytime" plan for 24 months and then an extra $300 credit for the trade-in. Interesting. I seriously do hope they retain/revamp the Flexi style plans and have options for data/sms.

Good thing is the trade-in refund would probaby allow you to get a better phone "free" by applying the credit towards the purchase cost.

That's not really a new plan, they offer the same thing for the current network, they just don't advertise its existance much/at all. It doesn't come with a new phone as such, but a $300 towards the account which can be spent on a new phone (so I got a $199 phone and had a $101 credit on the account, roughly). Plus you can switch from the $45/month flexi plan to the $30/month one after the 1st month with no penalty.

It's called the "winback" or "welcomeback" deal, something like that.

15 devices is a pretty reasonable range, much better than the current poor lot.

Hopefully you will be able to forgo the cheap handset of $179.00 (example) and use the $179.00 + 300.00 credit towards a new phone. $500 should get you a decent phone..

I was in store today talking to the guy - apparently if you sign up on your existing contract for another 12 months you get $300 towards a new XT phone. But only towards the phone. When you redeem this offer, that initial 12 month contract is gone, and you have to sign up on one of their new plans for 24 months, ie you can't keep your current plan. Flexi is not going to be made available. But the guy assured me the new plans were good value for money (how much money??). I didn't really understand the concept of the whole signing up for 12 months part before the launch.

But i think i'm going to stay onmy flexi plan while I can!

Whenever someone says "good value for money" it isn't...

I think the Flexi plans are good value more on accuracy and the adaptive charging, I sure hope they will allow me to retain it into the new network.

But very right, anything promoting: "Good value for money" "extra quality" "Wholesale prices direct" I have usually found to be always expensive or full of snags. (unless true wholesaler/manufacturer)
