Over on testdrive.co.nz they're running a promo, and the winner will receive - free - the following plan for 6 months:

180 minutes national calling to any mobile/landline

1,500 txts to any network

240MB data

3 "My Favourites"

Assuming this will also be a (highly attractive, IMO) retail plan, what would you be happy to pay for a plan like this? What do you think Telecom will charge? Interesting to note the lack of on-net/off-net calling rates...

I would guess they're trying to cut down on on-net/off-net and peak-off peak rates which makes everything alot simpler

Thats not a bad price, thats $100/GB which isn't excellent, but it's better than the $10240/GB that Vodafone used to charge. :)

The plan looks good. Right now, simply being able to make a online banking transfer in less than 10 minutes on my iPhone would take the winning network prize.

Hmm, I suppose that's true. Although on the vodafone 200mb plan the overuse charge is another 200mb for $10 then 50 cents per MB after the 400MB. Hopefully telecom will be more competitive when they release the full details of their new plans :)

How can we say the plan looks good when we don't even know the price?! It could be $500 per month for all we know!! Plus where are we getting 50c per MB after 240MB from?

50c per MB is listed on the Testdrive site (I'm on my iPod so it's too much trouble to give you a direct quote).

reduce text from 2000 to 1500 it is still good!!! as i never finished them all......

i think the telecom phone company now should be focus on working along each other network rather than focus on on net off net prices....

If Telecom were to dramatically reduce the charges they applied other telco's wishing to make a call or txt to their network and operate at a loss for a small period, wouldn't the other telco's follow suit? It could be bad press for the others if they had significantly higher call rates than Telecom.
Consumers ultimately choose the cheapest deal and would probably make more voice calls = more call revenue.
I figure that, should this happen, the termination charges would fall, willingly, between Vodafone, Telecom or whoever and we'd have an even more competitive landscape.

But this is looking at the situation a bit simply ;) I realise both Vodafone and Telecom are enjoying the high call prices.
Just an idea.

I'd say at a guess Telecom will be charging $80 a month for the above plan.... however i'm guessing they will have cheaper plans for lower users.

I'm not holding my breath. I have a cheap voip line for any calls and $10 txt. Would be great if the casual call rate was lower
