Is there a link somewhere where I can download updated firmware for a BlackBerry on the Telecom network? (The 8830 in particular). It's easy to find on Vodafone's site, but no joy on Telecom's. (The word "firmware" doesn't return a single hit, and the girl on 123 didn't know what firmware or a software upgrade meant).

Just download the latest desktop software from blackerry.com and it does it for you you should be downloading 4.7.0.32, download the english version without the media manager about 69 megs

Ah, still running 4.6 here which doesn't appear to have a download function. Downloading 4.7 now and I'll give that a shot, thanks.
