After getting my SIM this morning from First Mobile in Rotorua I head off to work to register and get my extra $10 credit.

I search the telecom website for a registration section for XT and eventually conclude that you need to register for My Telecom

Once I try to register with My Telecom it says my number does not exist.  So I call telecom customer services and get told I have to make a call to activate the number and the wait FOUR DAYS!!! until I can register online for my free $10 credit.

Go Telecom

A great start to the network launch.

Now that Johnr points out... First Mobile is a Vodafone dealer.

Have you asked Telecom to PORT you number from Vodafone?

If this is the case, yes it can take up to four days. Telecom requests Vodafone to close your account, they do some magic on their side, reply to Telecom, and that's it. When I ported it was all done in 24 hours, last year.

So if you are porting there isn't much Telecom can do, that's how it works.

Resolution:
1) Do check it's a Telecom Sim, as First Mobile is A Vodafone Store.
2) Registration can be done now at: http://www.telecom.co.nz/prepa...
3) If you only have prepaid you do not need to, register for "My Telecom".
4) Your number will work right now, with money on the prepaid acct, however it will take upto 4 days for the processing and applying of the $10 credit you get from registering.
