Hi everyone,

I'm a little confused about whether I'll be able to use tethering with a W705a. SE's site says that tethering is supported if you install the PC Suite, whereas Telecom's site says that there is no tethering support.

I'm using OS X and can't find any information on whether Apple's built-in Bluetooth tethering functionality will work or not, if Telecom even allows it in the first place. I know that it's early days, but does anyone know what the deal is?

Thanks :)

You can tether with XT phones and the Sony Ericsson should work using PC Suite.

I had a quick look on the SE site and couldn't find a Mac version of the PC Suite. There's an iSync plugin but I don't think that it'd allow tethering.

Thanks for answering that tethering is definitely supported, but I'd like to find out whether it's possible on a Mac without having the PC Suite.

Getting tethering working on the mac is a bit of a pain, but it can be done without any additional software needing to be installed. I'd suggest hitting up Google. You have to link the phone up with bluetooth and set it up as a network device.

AFAIK there is no (practical) way of getting a SE phone to tether via USB on a mac.

I got my 4 year old W900 to work with tethering over bluetooth, so it shouldn't be an issue for you. SE's bluetooth profile support is brilliant.

I'm familiar with how to set up phones in Sys Prefs > Network > Bluetooth, so if that's the process then I'm happy :)

Thanks!

Tethering was successful, I just picked all the defaults in Apple's setup assistant. Speed, however, is awful (810/310, in Whakatane). I've tried manually setting the APN to internet.telecom.co.nz which didn't help. Any suggestions?
