Hey,

On the telecom website, it says that my phone has GPS in it, how can I turn it off?  (like you can with some phones on the CDMA network)

You just dont use it - all the phones I have used with a GPS have only started it up when an application has requested GPS.

There may be some way to block app access to it in there somewhere but unless you just install anything random on the phone that seems a bit excessive.

Go to "settings" "general" "positioning" "positioning methods" setting and remove all ticks.

I'm just assuming you have a nokia as your post is rather vague.

on another note, as I understand it XT doesnt yet support A-GPS, do you guys know if it is likely with an iPhone 3G if the GPS will still get a lock on the current position, or will it take ages?

This is another case of the original poster not giving enough information and people jumping to conclusions. Could people posting questions PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE give more information to start with?

As we found out he's not talking about CDMA, so please disregard those replies about "Positioning".

The specifications on the Sony Ericsson website doesn't list GPS, but I found a reference to this phone coming with Google Maps for Mobile. So you should find Google Maps on your menu... Is there anything?

If there's don't worry. GPS is not on until you use it. And no, it is not used to track you, unless you use a service such as Google Latitude - even so you decide what information is shared.

GPS IS NOT EVIL!
