Hi Guys,

First post, go easy on me.

I have been on XT since last Thursday and am finding it great I have always had reception problems around my house but XT seems to have largely resolved this.

But twice now I have made calls that have had massive echo of my own voice during the call. So much so that I have had to end the call. One I gave up on and the other I called back on my Landline.

I have a Nokia 6600 as I have had Nokias for a long time. I was debating whether to get the R7 as I came from a 6255.

Anyway, is the echo a network fault or is my handset. The Echo occured at two separate locations about 4 ks apart, on the North Shore and on different days.

Thanks

I've had the same problem on at least two calls I can remember, the one this morning was so bad the echo was louder than me and keep freaking me out :)

It's like swapping the frypan for the fire!

Echo here too using SE W705a in Whakatane. Caller was using a landline.

Edit: I remembered the caller often uses his phone on handsfree so it's possible that I was just hearing myself because of that. I'll need to confirm whether I get an echo when using a "normal" phone.

I used to have this issue ALL the time on vodafone with all my handsets. Its just part of using a mobile phone.

I had it tonight, admittedly I was using it through a calling card but even then, the voice quality on the subsequent call sounded a bit scratchy. It did seem to go away after a minute or so though.

XT seems to silence the areas of audio that Vodafone turn into a shhhhhhhhhfffffffff sound, must be something with the AMR codec used and different network implementations, silence is preferable to the shhhhhhhhffffff sounds but annoying when trying to do audioconferencing which the old CDMA phone did flawlessly.

Echo is not what I would expect.

Could all those who are having echo on their XT phones please log a fault with *123. Remember to state time, date, location, your number, the other number and your handset type.

Thanks
Neal

We know about the echo issue and it is currently under investigation. As Neal stated however continue to log faults experienced.

An update to this, a network element was replaced last night. This should have cleared the Echo issue.

had it only the once. No issues since that single call.

I "did" have it again but determined the cause as being the caller calling from a car kit as they called back on landline and echoed just the same.

The difference between Telecom and Vodafone is like night and day! I've been really impressed by Telecom's technical expertise and willingness to not accept anything less than world class engineering.

I posted about the echo here about a week ago and just thought (wrongly from my past experiences with Vodafone) that it would just be something I would have to live with. :-(

Go the XT! Glad to see the back of Vodafone's signal

Have you got the names right? Isn't it time to just skip to praising the contracted supplier?

"Normal" customers see the network as Telecom's, and report any issues to Telecom. And as a Telecom customer, I'm impressed with the network and the speed that this issue was resolved.
