Well here's what I've decided on:
1: Nokia E75 for me, and the SE W705a for her indoors (HI)as her upgrade from CDMA
2: I'm getting my 021 ported, while HI already is on 027
3: Plan: Postpaid Share 750 + TXT1500+Data Extra 240MB

HI and I don't txt much but we do email a lot. The XT phones are really to enable us to get notification of emails which have come in while on the road, and then we can view them at any one of the four PCs we have at each of our 4 offices around Auckland. At the moment, all our business landlines and home lines are with Telecom, and I'd like to leverage these into a package deal.

As Telecom veterans, I'd like to get your comments and/or advice on whether the plan I'm looking at signing up for (24-month period) is the option you'd take, and if not what alternative plan you'd suggest.

I look forward to your advice.

Sounds like you have planned it well, can't really fault it though maybe select a little bit more data (higher dataplan like 1GB or 512MB) as insurance so you can go a little over when downloading attachments or use your phones as modems with your pc's

Thanks for your advice on dataplan: I only picked the 240MB as that was the max add-on on the site. I'll take the 1GB instead, subject to my question below:

Just a quick question: with the Share plans, I know both phones share the free minutes. Do they also share the TXT1500 and the dataplan, or are these restricted to the primary device/account holder? The answer to this will obviously affect the TXT and data plan choices.

The Share plans only share minutes. Text and data are added to each phone separately. So if you don't text much go for text 150 each?

Thanks. Back to the drawing board for the TXT & dataplans...

ahh, I thought the shares worked like the old tandem plans without the diverts where they shared the lot. Would be superb if they could do this.

My tandem shares everything from data to my faves and sms with the primary CDMA number but then there is the annoying divert from primary - secondary.

T'com will probably introduce the Tandem deal after I've signed up for the 24-month Share plan..CrySmile

My daughter posed a question tonight which I couldn't answer (didn't find an answer after doing a search):
If after my 021 is ported to XT and I call up someone on either 021 or 027, what Caller_ID number would they see? My full 021-XXX XXX number? This was prompted by the pending FairGo episode tomorrow night over call charging for calls to ported numbers....I realise there's some automated txt-checking system to find out which network a ported number is actually operating on, but it's a curly issue for some.

Yes, still the full 021 xxx xxx number, as "though" you were calling from a Vodafone NZ mobile. I pefer not to port but it sounds like it's more of a business case in your circumstance. People still just assume that 021 is Vodafone and 027 is Telecom and call/txt accordingly.

Both operators have always been quite open about checking what network a number is on by sending an SMS to 300 containing the number (free service)

Telecom with XT have obviously decided that it's better not "to discriminate" by making all the XT plans one price for all number types (except for my favourites which will be checked on provisioning that number is with Telecom but cannot be checked after it's provisioned)

Amazing this Fair Go issue came up just now when number porting and it's possible pitfalls has been around for a good two years, just inform people you have switched as best as you can and you should be trouble free. Even possibly indicate on literature that the number is now with Telecom.

Well I picked gup the E75 this afternoon and am having a great time playing with it using my VF SIM card as the port is booked for mid-day tomorrow. I like this phone, and my 8-year-old daughter loves it even more. Looks like HI wants to change from the E71 to the E75 as well!!! Have just downloaded the Nokia PC Suite and am finding my way around with it, but so far I'm glad I opted for the E75. Will keep you posted....

Thanks to all who passed comments and advice: greatly appreciated.
