After years and years of frustration on dial-up I have finally coverted to the more civilised world of broadband but am wondering if my speeds are right. I have signed up with the Telecom Total Home Plan with 10GB of data. I live in Pukekohe and as advised from the Telecom website am due to get ADSL2 sometime this month at the local exchange which I live about 1km from.

Modem is Thomson TG585v7 with following details

Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]:832 / 7.616

Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]:12,0 / 18,0

SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]:13,0 / 15,0

Vendor ID (Local/Remote):TMMB / ALCB

And lastly why does Speedtest think I am in Napier?

Thanks

Speedtest doesn't 'think' you are in Napier, it is where the speedtest server you are using is located. :)
Very good speeds, and good ISP choice.

Thanks for the reply people, was also wondering does Telecom inform you when your exchange has been upgraded to ADSL2?

No - they didnt for me but when my speeds went from 1.5Mps to 6Mps I knew something had changed, I bought an adsl2+ modem and my speeds went up to
test

They were also about 3 months ahead of the scheduled date which was my biggest surprise.

Is there anything in the modem/connection settings that would be able to tell me?

There is no settings to tell you that -- most of the ADSL modems are preconfigured

You can go to telecom.co.nz/adsltwoplus and type in your address to see if you are qualify for ADSL 2+

Most likey Telecom hasn't upgrade your exchange yet.....once they do, your speed will increase....
