Went and had a nosy at the fielddays today (was hard to find stuff for townies like myself!).

Noticed before I went that XT had this on their facebook page:

Telecom's XT Mobile Network Our Test Lab is fully equipped with all the toys - the entire range of handsets is on show, and a fully operational Retail store has been moved to Mystery Creek so customers can get set up and running right there and then. There's also 12 live laptops that show off our broadband capabilities.

Now I did find this tent, they had HP Netbooks all setup running that webbrowser you see in Telecom shops but I noticed there were no USB data sticks in them, also I happened to notice behind where the tills were a patch pannel setup with 2 thompson adsl wireless routers running.

Looking at that facebook quote I would of expected them to be showing off how fast XT broadband is.

Mobile coverage there wasn't a problem, could see 2 temp (I assume temp) cellsites setup on top of the hill and had full vodafone 2.1ghz 3g signal, vodafone site were giving away free hats which was handy.

Not sure about vodafone, but the two telecom cellsites on the hill are permanent and are among the largest in the country - necessary when you have up to 30,000 people in one area. (obviously all wont be on telecom).

I don't see any mobile broadband reference there. Perhaps they're referring to fixed line DSL?

I too got to have a look through their "test lab" (took ages to find though, I'm just blind), I was very impressed with their setup, whoever is in charge of their marketing has produced a very slick plan.

I was also surprised this was real, I thought it was photoshopped:

The "scientists" in the test lab:

And you can see the XT Network stand in the background of this photo that just happens to have the Suzuki cheer girls in it Laughing
