After lurking around here for some time and reading all the stories of getting up and going on XT I though i would add my experiences...

Wife fell in love with the Samsung F480 at time of XT release so decided to swap current CDMA plan onto Combo XT plan, so went to Lynn Mall Telecom store yesterday afternoon. Despite my wife being deadset on the F480 the assistant took us over to the working shop phones and insisted the wife have a good play around with the phone, text, work through the menus etc and that she was comfortable with it's operation and that it suited her. This done, she did the paperwork, swapped all contacts over from old phone to new phone and the phone was alive on her old number before we walked out of the store!

I am going to stay CDMA at this stage so have been on the lookout for a cheap Okta Touch to replace my Nokia 6275 of which i found one yesterday. Last night I upgraded ROM to WM6.1 and just now popped back to Lynn Mall telecom to have the Okta transferred onto my exisitng plan, 5minutes later I am walkign out of the store a happy customer with the Okta all go and connected.

The service from this store is literally beyond expectation, I cannot fault their process, manner or professionalism, Telecom you should be proud!

Thanks for the praise if you let me know which shop I will ensure it gets to the right management team.

Nice to hear of excellent experiences with service providers. Complaints about negative experiences are so common it's nice to give recognition to the deserving.

My partner also brought a F480 and so did my friends wife, it seems to be a hit with the girls!

I am very surprised that nobody has commented on the price hikes if you decide to upgrade your phone on to the XT network. In my case if I upgraded to a similar plan on the XT network I would be looking at a price hike of a extra $50 per month for 20 less minutes per month. Why isn't anybody complaining, do mobile consumers love to be ripped off.?

I too can confirm the Samsung F480 is "a hit with the chicks" - based on the fact two female friends picked that over other Telecom NZ WCDMA options.

Perhaps the Samsung F480 is the equivilant of "Every CDMA Sanyo comes in Pink"

...Replace any reference to "Chicks" with Women or Female as corrected....

We had really good service from the staff in the Manukau City Mall on Saturday when we bought my mother-in-law a new R7. She loves it..

This is the #1 reason as to why i am sticking with CDMA at this point and time, however in the wifes case she was on a $30 flexi plan wheras she is now on the combo plan with 150txt extra and as she predominently only rings me from her mobile so will grab the $6 my favorites for me and cost will be similar or less than present.

As far as I am concerned Telecom have lost my business I thought they would have known better than to hike prices in a severe recession. 2 degrees here I come. Stuff Telecom and their price hikes.

depends on what plan you were on previously I guess.

For prepay customers the pricing is massively cheaper than on CDMa (particularly if you tyake up the bonus top ups and for data) with the possible exception of those who used Boost, which no longer exists.

For customers who were on Anytime before, then I'm pretty sure the prices are lower for XT.

the people who might find they are worse off are those on Mytime plans on CDMA - becqause they gave you heaps more minutes, but only offpeak.  There are no offpeak plans now (in the name of simplicity apparently), so you can't really compare the two networks pricing to claim 'price hikes', but for people who Mytime suited then they would probably end up paying more (because they didn;t care about peak minutes anyway) now.

The add-ons like Data, my favourites, and Texts are definitely the same price or cheaper than previously.

What plan are you on?  I'm guessing it mustbe a Mytime plan?

It is still a price hike.

how does everything being cheaper, except the couple of plans that no longer exist translate to a price hike?

You aren't comparing apples with apples. (are you on Mytime?)

Admittedly there are no off-peak plans (though this was intended with anytime, any network, pricing) and sadly Flexi has been abandoned though they did keep "overage" at plan prices, something I certainly couldn't get with most previous offerings where the price would jump up when included usage exceeded.

I wouldn't say "price hikes" but more a realignment and simplification and also remember they need to pay for this new network somehow. CDMA was far more expensive when it launched and prices came down as it got more bedded in. The data plans and other offerings like the 1500 "any network" texts will be a big bonus for some and even the 150 SMS plan will be a saving for those that only send a few. ($6 for $30 worth)

Telecom have done this well, I have heard mostly good things this far though heading into a Telecom shop myself on launch-day did prove to be a bit of a challenge with getting service due to sheer numbers of people.

Some special CDMA plans may be transferable, check with your dealer.
