Which SMTP can I use on my 6120c for outgoing mail? obviously the orcon one does not work, it probably only works with orcon ip range.
I have searched and found that some people use the gmail smtp, where abouts are the settings to change the from and reply-to addresses on the 6120cs mail client?

EDIT:

You don't need to change the reply to address. Just change the outgoing server to smtp.gmail.com (and check the correct ports and if SSL is required (I can't remember but I think it is?) In the user name field for the SMTP server set your Gmail user name and password. No one will know that you emails where sent from Gmail's servers rather than Orson’s (well maybe some real geeks?).

I did that a while ago on my laptop using thunderbird and all the outgoing email was being relabeled with the email address I was using to login, does this not happen anymore?

You where quick, I updated my post above.

It shouldn't matter, just make sure you use your Orcon settings for incoming mail (POP?).

Set to port 587 (smtp submission) to mail.orcon.net.nz with your username/password used for SMTP Auth. and enable TLS if possible.

I tried a few combinations with gmail and orcon and finally figured it out. its the settings you speak off but without TLS, with TLS it would just go sit in my outbox and get queued, same as with all the gmail settings.

That is stupid unless your using a gmail address. Ideally you should use Orcon's outgoing mail server (which you have) and they generally will let you use their mail servers as long as you authenticate. You could have also used Telecoms which is a less preferred option but using gmail's is just plain ridiculous.

Many spam filters check to see whether your sending server is authenticated for that domain hence why you should use Orcon's

It's not stupid for the simple reason that some ISPs will not allow their SMTP servers to be accessed from an off net location and hence my advice.

You really need to think about what you are typing before rudly calling someone's idea's or advice stupid...

Almost all providers allow access from any network and provide alternate ports in case an ISP blocks standard SMTP ports on their connections (as seen with Orcon).

I did not mean to call you stupid but more so misinformed. With the world moving towards Domain Keys/DKIM it is prudent to use servers authenticated for your domain and I doubt that this is the case with Gmails servers relaying Orcon.

Even if Orcon blocked access why not just use Telecom's outgoing servers as your traffic stays internal then and will take less time to deliver/be more efficiently routed....

Because send.xtra.co.nz will only allow authorised requests (i.e. xtra.co.nz addresses and registered email address where you need an Xtra address to register anyway). You do not simply get an Xtra email just because you are a Telecom mobile customer. smtp.xtra.co.nz is an old server and is due to be removed so while it may work now it is not advisable.

As my ‘misinformed view’, it’s about time Orcon allowed off net access to their SMTP servers, it didn’t use to be like that.
