Just seen a new ad for XT Network - this time no Hammond, just a bloke buying APPLES. Am I reading too much into this, or could this new campaign be leading to a certain device being announced?

I saw it as well, it's funny and amusing.

I'm still amazed by how people are so used to the complex Vodafone pricing plans that they struggle to grasp the simplicity of the XT plans.

I'm hoping Telecom get's the iPhone, but the new 3GS overheats from all the reports I've been hearing.

Could this be why Vodafone are leaving the announcement of their plan prices so late???

They've left subtle hints on their forums about Telecom's competition.

Very excited to see what the phone by itself might cost.

Would be interesting if you could post a link to where on these forums.

What channel and what time was it on? Might try rewinding MySky to see if I can find it.

I just saw the ad, and I think there inference is comparing apples with apples, and NOT comparing Apples with Apples.

ok just to clarify for those that haven't seen it, it shows a guy going to purchase an apple, but the price on the sign keeps fluctuating. The message is all about the 'one rate' plans - i.e. price certainty. I get that. But I'm just saying... of all the analogies? Apples? Right now? Surely they must realise the irony in it, even if I am way off the track.

I would love Telecom to release/support the iPhone, and I really hope I'm wrong, but "comparing apples with apples" is a common phrase that people use when we talk about comparing two things so my guess would be that we might be reading into it a bit much.

But, as I said, I really hope I'm wrong and the ad is a subtle hint!

It could be the common expression of "comparing apple with apple" but it could also have secondary message embedded with intention or possibility that XT is getting Apple iPhone soon? And apple being red could mean people are still know little about other possibility out there but instead choosing the red-branded service - and since it is forbidden to make direct comparison to another brand/company in NZ ads, the red here is you-know-what. Perhaps.

Even then, it'd be naive to assume that the marketing team were blind to the implications of featuring apples in a telecommunications advert. The iPhone is kind of a big deal.

Or it could be that the writer and director are simply Apple fans, they both run Apple laptops...

Apple fans or not, there's still implications?
