I am using a third party handset (Pantech Windows Mobile 6.1) and noticed something interesting today.

When I have a new voice mail the indicator shows up as expected:

But when I clear the voicemail, instead of the indicator being reset, the handset presents an incoming SMS:

Any ideas?

What's stupid about VF?

If you want a VM icon rather than the VM SMS notification (remembering their are advantages and disadvantages to both methods) then just ring 777 and they'll enable it for you. I've had it since the start of the year.

Text tells you how many, when I had the icon on vodafone (thats what I ended up with after asking for VM removed on one of my phones) it would just turn the icon on - no count or date of the message etc...

now if they could do who called without having VM that would make me turn it back on, but with it costing people then no VM for me thanks...

Disadvanges of icon are that there is no visual status of the number of messages or the number of new messages like the TXT message. You also can't determine between fax and voice if you have a fax mailbox.

Advantage is that you can never forget about VM messages - I've certainly read messages in the past but been too busy to check the VM and forgotten all about them! The icon makes it very clear that you still have unread messages.

Back on topic, I think this may be a handset issue since NealR tells me there's nothing on the network side. I think the handset didn't deactivate the MWI instead interpreting it as a standard SMS...

hmm seems a bit weird since it's the same sms that is turning the icon on as it is turning it off
