I have  been using a SamSung SPH i325 to send receive emails when I don't want to carry my notebook.

I was able to set it up to retrieve mail from my isp with my isp login and send email using smtp.xtra.co.nz.

I have a GTran modem in the notebook so when I couldn't get a wireless connection to a nearby network I would use the GTran modem to send retrieve emails.

Now I have connected a Treo 750 to XT I can retrieve emails ok.  I set it up the same as the Samsung, except I can't check "use the setting same name and password for sendinge-mail".

Sending emails comes up with a 550 relaying is not allowed.

I changed the smtp setting to my smtp2go account and registered the sender address details with smtp2go and I now have send & receive emails working.

What settings should I use to get the email sending using smtp.xtra.co.nz?

I think we missed a bit there...

These are the complete settings prompt and responses (password as xxxxxxxx) for setting up e-mail

Prompt: Response:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
e-mail address: bernard.bailey@tiemzone.co.nz
Your Name: Bernard Bailey
Account display name: tiemzone.co.nz
Incoming mail server: mail.interspeed.co.nz
Account type: pop3
User name: tiemzo43@tiemzone.co.nz
Password: **************
Save Password Checked
Outgoing (SMTP) mail server: send.xtra.co.nz

Checked outgoing server requires authentication
Checked Use the same user name and password for sending e-mail

Advanced Server Settings
Checked SSL for Outgoing e-mail

Network connection: The Internet
Automatic Send/Receive Every 4 hours
Download messages: From the past 3 days
Message format: HTML
Message download limit: 2KB

I couldn't set the port or username.

I checked my XTRA mail account setup and it works fine. Just can't use those settings with my main ISP.

You'll need to Add & Verify your tiemzone.co.nz email address - follow the steps here

To send via send.xtra.co.nz you'll need to use your Xtra account details, you wont be able to use the option "Use the same user name and password for sending e-mail".
