I know that the W531 won't work on UMTS/3G WCDMA but If I stick a XT SIM in it will it work on GSM?

No, XT is only a 3G UMTS/WCDMA network, so will not work with any 2G only GSM phone

I unlocked mine and it works fine.

By the way. I in the latest DSE flyer that they have the W531 on prepay for $99. If you want a CDMA / GSM fone for the next few years it's not a bad buy..

Please don't post unlock codes as they are against the FUGs.

Does it really mater with this fone now as Telecom does not actually support it  and is being fire saled at DSE.  Telecom won't give out a roaming SIM for it or allow you to activate an existing one.  I tried the other week
