We await XT's counter-strike with interest. Vodafone have lead out and pre-empted 2 degrees with their "Easy 20" base $19/month plan, but I'm not so sure that XT will have anything to counter with.

For light to moderate users, I still see absolutely no reason to go on account with XT - Prepaid is a darn sight cheaper! And from the XT website, it seems you cannot add "My Favourites" to a OneRate plan? If this is true then that's lunacy.

Also, as per a recent thread I started, it seems XT has no intention of reviewing My Favourites to include TXTs (Vodafone BestMate includes voice calls, TXTs, AND video calls).

So what are you going to do about it Telecom?

I await 2 Degrees with interest and hope they can trump both and force further price "correction".

You can add My Favourites to a One Rate plan. See http://www.telecom.co.nz/myfavourites/eligible for a list of supported plans.

As for prepaid being cheaper, I think I agree. I'm going overseas next month so I'm on postpaid for roaming, but once I get back I'm going to look at my usage and figure out whether prepaid is better for me.

Strange. On the Telecom site when you configure a One Rate plan, My Favourites is not listed as an add-on option.

I believe you set up My Favourites once the connection is active.

Probably on purpose.  Vodafone may have identified this sub-section of customers as a group they want to pursue, Telecom may decide that due to the low average spend per customer that it's not worth going after them, and instead concentrate on the bigger spenders.

Price is not everything.

While I agree that a lower pricing plan across the board isn't a bad thing, something will have to give.  Cell site maintenance, concurrent call volumes, capacities at call centres (ie teleco overheads) etc etc will suffer with telecos not able to keep up their current standards while maintaining low calling rates.  Complaints will then start about poor service and call quality.  Cheaper calling doesn't necessary mean better service.

2Degrees will bring an interesting mix to the existing market, should be good to see what their new rates will be, and how that will affect Telecom/Vodafone.  However, this is getting off-topic, and should be in a different forum Smile

they are very keen pricing plans but you cannot change the config shown, no bestmate, no extra texts so they are of limited value. also stuck on a 12 month contract wheras XT offers open terms.

I agree, great pricing but shame about the rigidity and snags.

The Easy plans are stupid, you can't get addons and they will likely be excluded from most Vodafone promotions.

Can't wait to see what 2degrees has to offer...
