Today my motherinlaws fone   started to show R for roaming on the screen and she was unable to send SMS.  She went thru the handbook but nothing. Took it down to the Telecom store in Manukau and no one there  new how to remove the R but by defaulting the fone got SMS working again.

Anyone got any idea how to take it out of roam or is south Auckland a foreign country??

INfo from TElecom
some devices are intermittently logging on to the network
in Roaming mode. This can be identified when Telecom NZ shows
up in two places on the display and there is a ?R? at the top of the
display. The customer is then unable to receive or make calls or
text messages while in Roaming mode. This generally occurs in
areas outside of primary coverage.

Telecom are investigating a fix, no ETA

one thing that seems to fix this problem at least temp. is to ring telecom and ask them to do a network reset and take your battery out for five minutes while on the phone to them. ( dont ring of ur r7 )

As posted by n00dy above there appears to be a problem in the XT network causing this problem. . This confirmed to me by the Telecom store in Manukau when I sent his info to them..

This morning when the fone was powered on it eventually came back to normal. It took 4 attempts as the first 3 said "No Service or Limited Service" I suspect that these R6 and R7 fones need a software upgrade or there is some serious issues with the XT network in places..
