I recently migrated to the XT network. No complaints until i discovered that nobody on 2degrees can send me a txt? 


Telecom / Voda no problems i still get those, but anybody on 2degrees nothing comes through. 


Anybody else having the same issues? i dont know if its my XT phone or at least three of my friends 2degrees phones. 


ps - i can send to anyone (including 2degrees) without issue. The issues is only receiving messages from 2degrees.

I'll borrow Johnr's favorite line of late, the investigation should always start with the A party :)

Get your friends to log a faulty with 2 degree's, however feel free to contact Telecom on *123 (postpaid) or 0800 32 32 32 (prepaid) to get it checked out from Telecom's end.

Probably a delay in the IPMS database affecting traffic. Don't expect all routes to work on a ported number for a couple of days.




Generally known online as OpenMedia, now working for Red Hat APAC a Technology Evangelist and Product Manager. Still playing with MythTV and digital media on the side.

Yeah, they have already logged calls with 2degrees - who told them to ensure they have put in the right number... err. (not alot of help there)

Their port was over 2 weeks ago, could it be possible that the routes are not yet setup?

Sorta why i was wondering if it was my phone and not theirs.... I'll check with Telecom if the problem is still around after a few more days.

Just an update. I logged a call with XT (straight after this post) - who then asked for me to test with 2 other 2degree customers. I completed the testing and passed on the information...

I'm STILL awaiting a fix to this, every time i call XT they are saying it has been escalated. The last call i made they told me it is bouncing back and forth between them and 2degrees engineers....

I made the swap to XT in July and logged this call over a month ago and i've yet to see any fix. I'm quite appalled with the lack of service. No updates from Telecom unless i ring and hassle them. The cost to me personally is starting to add up - as i have to call my wife and other friends on 2degrees every time i need to communicate.... Grrrr. Telecom is profiting from their lack of resolution!

Hi Nic - thanks for your efforts.

Unfortunately it still leaves me in the position where i'm a Telecom customer with a phone on the XT network that doesn't work properly. Telling me that the problem is with 2degrees is not really something i can escalate personally - as i'm not a customer of theirs. Yet.

Its this simple don't blame telecom here 2D should be doing the tracing checking the HOC added to the sms and so on your phone on XT is working fine if the SMS was making it to the telecom smsc then it would be delivered. Would you blame telecom if someone in another country could not ring your mobile number?

On friday I looked into a issue 2D numbers ported to telecom that started with 6422* could not get sms from vodafone customers. I was contacted by a telecom staff member and resolved the issue 10 minutes later. Get the 2D customers to contact 2D provide examples times dates numbers and it should be a simple fix.

I've already done this, sorry if it was not clear enough in my previous post. They have logged a call with 2degrees who have told them the problem is not at their end. 


Would i blame Telecom if someone in another country couldn't call me? Nope, wouldn't care since most of my friends don't live in another country. Unsure where you were going with that.


  • I cannot log a call with 2degrees since i'm not THEIR customer

  • My friends have logged calls with 2degrees. They have been told the messages are leaving the 2degrees network so no problems on their side. ??

  • Telecom case -- A "technicain" has told me that if the 2degrees phones do not get an error message back then the txt has left their network. -- now this may be incorrect else why are they seeking details from 2degrees at the moment. 

  • It supposedly is NOT a simple fix else this would have been resolved by now.

We are still trying to get this fixed on your behalf, this is what I have been told to ask you for (don't ask me why)

Could you please have one of your friends send you a text message and provide you with the time that they sent it and there general location, i.e. street, and we can go back with this data to 2D

Hi Nic,

I have done some of this as requested by Telecoms helpdesk (it should be recorded in the call?). I have had two friends txt me at a specific time and gave them the numbers and times etc... A Telecom technician also tried sending me messages from a 2degrees test phone, which also never made it through. (i'm guessing he could have got the location and time from that)
