Okay so I recently changed to Telecom and straight away I noticed no exernal mail. So a quick search around on the Telecom website and found the block port 25, and I can opt out.

I'm subscribed and shows that I opted out successfully so restarted the router and have obtained a different IP address, woot I thought I'm in. But no still port 25 was getting blocked.

I emailed the port 25 guys and they suggested changing my login for my account on the router, I changed this and restarted.

But still getting time out error when I look at the postfix error log. So ran an external scan and port 25 is still blocked.

The port is open on the router and if I use nmap on the linux box to do a local scan it shows it's open, external scan shows only two ports open, 80 and my telnet port (for my telnet BBS)....

So have emailed them again but no response yet, is anyone from Telecom hiding out there on Geekzone that can take a look and get port 25 open for me?

PS - No I'm not on Big Time :-)

What email address did you email?

Do you have an Incident Number from the team that emailed you?

Have given up on this, Telecom say it's open but it isnt. Internally all shows up fine and the port is showing open with nmap... externally it's still showing as closed even though it's open on my router and pointing to my linux box.

The only change is going from my old ISP to Telecom. Port 80 is forwarding fine as the website is coming up so not sure why port 25 would have an issue.

Also stuck the linux box in the DMZ so no NAT to worry about but the port is still showing closed. Rebuilt the server box just for fun and that also gave me the same result.

Best Advice I can offer is to call our Complex Technical Support (CTS) on 0800-268-070

This is the team that can look into as they have the tools to look from their end of the system.

Have you also tried http://www.mxtoolbox.com/ and looked at your MX records for Mail.

http://www.mxtoolbox.com just tells me the same thing,

1) mail.taf.org.nz (MX) is pointing to my Telecom IP address
2) SMTP test - times out so this points to port 25 still being blocked

Only change is internet provider. There is already an incident raised but they have just advised me to change my login name on the router which has been done and the the port is open.

Stated I was still having issues with no reply.

Generally the issue is that the username and or password is incorrect, remember that you can have a different password for email and a different one for broadband, remember that it doesn't matter what username or password you have as long as it has @xtra.co.nz it will connect - however you need the correct username and password to use static ip's and port 25 etc.

So in the router should be USERNAME.xadsl@xtra.co.nz and your password.

If it's still not working then try changing the password

http://selfservice.xtra.co.nz/live/selfservice/ChgPwd/

Don't forget to use .xadsl at the end or you'll only change your email password

I'm shocked, why could CTS not see that the password was invalid? If I was female I'd be giving you a big smooch right now Nitrotech :-)

THANK YOU THANK YOU! :-)
