Has anyone else found out that Telecom XT frequently disconnects when using their USB modem?

It happens quite a lot. Connect and use it for up to twenty minutes then no more data traffic unless I click disconnect and connect again..

Saw this happening in AKL and WLg. Really annoying.

Yes. It has been happening to me in Auckland recently.

A few days back, I could not get any connection at all, or maybe, just maybe it would work after 6 or 7 attempts. Eventually I found out that Alcatel-Lucent were doing some upgrades to the network and that problem went away.

But this other problem where the connection just goes to sleep, still happens sometimes.

I have to say that data connections on the XT network are not as reliable as the old CDMA network. Everything just worked on CDMA, whereas XT seems a lot more flaky to me. Sometimes have to Disconnect then Reconnect to get data transfer going again; also, very occasionally, the connection just drops for no reason and I have to reconnect.

I can live with the occasional disconnection because at least you know it has happened.

But when the connection just goes to sleep, it is very annoying because for quite some time you don't know whether it is the website not responding, or your own connection that is not responding.

I hope that Telecom can make XT's data network more bulletproof. It hasn't been a great experience so far.

I can't speak for Mauricio but I'm using a tethered Sony Ericsson W705a. I tried emailing the helpdesk but they seemed convinced that it was a configuration error at my end rather than a network problem, so that wasn't much help at all.

ZTE modem on Mac OS.

Sometimes it is hard to disconnect and quite often the usb modem seems to crash completely.
I don't think the ZTE mac drivers are very good :(

I have this problem with my ZTE modem on win 7, using the T03 software. I had always put it down to being on the move (I'm generally only using it on the train). But maybe the problem is more widespread?

I am already running the ZTE T.03 software with my MF636 on Vista Business. Again last night, the connection dropped out after almost exactly an hour. This has happened several times.

All this time, I thought that the connection dropouts/going to sleep were just something affecting me. At least I know that I am not alone with this issue, and hopefully something can be done to fix it.

What happens if you keep a ping up in the back ground?

Just to confirm we have the same problem - 5 MF656's which replaced old Aircard 580's.
Staff are reporting that the older AC580's were much more stable (but slower of course).

Thanks for the firmware links - will check that out.

Jaldvp,
Please Do Not supply Links that automatically download: That is just wrong in so many ways.
Firmware is .exe so windows only.
Watcher is a format I don't know .msi so probably windows too.
The update for the Tstick USB Modem is for Windows 7 only.

ZTE > MF636 Still will not work correctly with OSX10.6. which came out late August
New Network interfaces have been detected menu every darn time it is started. Remain as Not Configured no matter what.
Has been reported to Telecom with a nothing we can do ~ check the modem website reply.

Dropped connections are common, had to restart it half way through typing this (Mount Maunganui)
Happens regularly from South Island Tasman Bay > Wellington > Levin > Whakatane > Tauranga > Auckland and all stops in between.
S.

I can't think of any reason why a direct link is 'wrong'.  It's damn convenient if you ask me.

Just right-click a link for options... I don't see anything wrong with those links.

1. You have No idea what the link could / will download.
2. They are ONLY for Windows.. which could have easily been stated and wasn't.

The download starts immediately on the right click options with OSX10.6.2.
