first of all, i've complained to the telecom ppl.

just want to know if you guys think the same.

used to get speeds of 10Mbps (speedtest to chch server; i live in chch). now only hit that speed very occasionally, most of the time sitting between 1-3Mbps. sometimes at a crawl of under 1! ping is always 38ms.

anyone else got the same trouble?

(and yes modem line speed is 12Mbps down. 660Kbps up. at all times. using the thomson 585)

Christchurch Speed Test server is hosted by Snap, so it may not be Telecom's end that is the problem.

What speed do you get downloading the test files here
http://zeus.jetstream.co.nz/

This web server is connected directly to Telecom's Multi Service Core network via a 100Mb Ethernet link. Due to the central location and unconstrained connection into Telecom's core Internet VPN this makes it a good web site to test download performance assuming you are an Xtra retail customer.

Hi - Maybe this is what I'm experiencing - My broadband the last 3 days is periodically crawling to a stand still - webpages hanging & failing, both nationally and internationally.
I came to Geekzone just now looking for answers...

yes, I am seeing exactly the same thing here in CHCH over the last couple of days. Doubt that it is TIVO related though as Telecom have apparently only sold 600 units. I wouldn't think that is enough to slow the internet to a crawl.

Just wanted to say that I am TiVo user and Telecom BigTime user and I have not noticed any degradation of broadband performance since TiVo installed. (Auckland, Waitakere City)

Cheers,
Joseph.

I just spoke to Telecom, it looks like there's a problem in Chch, they seemed to think it was the dslam in the central Chch exchange. I'm connected at my normal speed (about 8.5MB/s), but I can only download from the telecom website at about 20-30KB/s. They said they should hopefully have it sorted in 3 hours.

Yep back to normal for me at about 10ish too.

I just spoke to Telecom again, apparently a cable got cut near Napier meaning that all the traffic was getting redirected via another pipe. Overall I'm pretty happy with how Telecom handled it, very impressed that they called me back to let me know what happened.
