I vaguely remember seeing this somewhere but time and my data allowance are running out fast.... I got the MF626 data stick as part of Telecom's promotion. Using it on Mac OS X 10.6.2 I'm burning through 1MB every several seconds, without even doing anything!

Nothing running in the background, just watching the usage go up in the connection manager software.

But this appears to be normal on OS X doesn't it, if I remember from reading elsewhere.

And it's because of the crap drivers?

After 38 minutes I've used 418MB, just from being on here and checking my email. Ridiculous. The 500MB isn't going to go very far.

Well just got booted off so I was able to get a total of 58 minutes use of just Geekzone and receiving a couple of emails. Brilliant.

DNS traffic was the culprit in the other one - though Telecom doesn't count that towards your usage...

This might be another thing...

Are you automatically downloading updates in the background?

This was discussed last month. It was a two part problem, related to how Telecom's DNS answers to requests and how the Mac OS X does not handle DNS responses well.
