Has anyone had recent experience in how to extract a GST invoice from NZ Telecom for a Pre-pay XT on-line topup?

I paid a $60 top-up by credit card, but the confirmation is not a GST invoice, it merely quotes the total amount and does not quote GST.

NZ IRD requires a GST invoice for payments over $50 and unfortunately I chose a $60 top-up.

There is an absolute obligation in NZ GST law on the supplier (Telecom) to provide a GST invoice within 28 days of a request. I have 'phoned Telecom 123 and after about half-an-hour's discussion the CSO offered merely Telecom's GST registration number and although the CSO had gone off-line a couple of times to consult higher authority, no provision of a GST invoice has been offered nor any procedure to follow to obtain one. There has been a promise to e-mail me a further response, but given the lack of any sign of getting to grips with the matter so far, I don't have much hope.

I should rather avoid the paper-work of having to write to the Commissioner of Inland Revenue about this, so if anyone knows a less-onerous way of obtaining such an invoice I should be grateful.

Hi

This should be simple to resolve.

Can I suggest communicating your concerns via the following link, Telecom should respond within 24 hours.

I agree 100% that there a legal requirement for Telecom to provide a GST invoice,  quoting from IRD website

If you supply goods and services to another GST-registered person, you must provide a tax invoice within 28 days of the purchaser asking for one. It is an offence if you don't supply one after such a request and you may be charged penalties.

Out of curiousity I just topped up my Vodafone PrePaid and the only acknowledgement is a text message with a reference number and no on-line option of obtaining a GST invoice.  As my mobile is used almost entirely for receiving calls my usual spend is extremely low and I had not worried about claiming the re-charge cost.  I have emailed Vodafone about this and apparently should receive a response within 24 hours.

Thanks nzbnw. Per your suggestion I sent a request off to custhelp, and within about 12 elapsed hours received confirmation that they will post an invoice. The reply also said I could have asked for an invoice via 0800 323232 (Mobile HelpDesk). Not clear to me why 123 was not able to redirect me.
