I purchased an E71 on the XT network last weekend, and during the week I upgraded its software using the Nokia Updater.  I backed up the device as instructed before, restored it after, and most things are running well.

Since then (and possibly before, as I did not try it) I am unable to connect to the “Telecom World” or any of the Telecom services through the web interface. The phone gives me several options for “access point” – TelecomContent, TelecomData, Telecomdefault and TelecomMMS .

Using TelecomContent, and TelecomMMS  I get a blank blue screen with “TMPb11d2.$$” at the top.

Using TelecomData, Telecomdefault I get an error – “web no gateway reply”.

Looking at the settings, the above options are the same except the APN is wap.telecom.co.nz for TelecomContent, Telecomdefault and TeleocmMMS and internet.telecom.co.nz for the other.

I do have a local WLAN set up, but am not using it for these tests.

I have an IMAP gmail account set up that works well, and I can browse other web sites through the Telecomdata setting, so the connection is there, just whatever the Telecomworld is looking for is not.

What have I done wrong???

Can you try again today and see if you're still getting the error? If so can you tell me what webpage it's trying to take you to?

Many thanks for the response....

1 - The tests I did over the weekend were all by pressing the top right button, which has the softkey label above on the screen saying 'TWorld'. When I press it, the actual url it is going to is not displayed, and I cannot find a place in the configuration to set this up so can?t actually tell what it is going to (maybe that is actually my issue?)

2 - I have therefore looked into it a bit further, and if I go to the browser, I have a number of pre-programmed bookmarks that come with the phone, I have tested them with the following results:

Ringtones - 'mobtones.tm.co.nz '
- if I press this and select 'Telecom Content' I get 'Web: No gateway reply' error
- if I press this and select 'TelecomData' I get an HTTP status 403 error
(see first message above for the settings in this phone under each 'access point' name).

mms - 'telecom.co.nz/amdistrauth/UI/Logi' (there may be some more characters, but the screen ran out and I cannot work out how to view more)
- if I press this and select 'Telecommms' I get ?Web: No gateway reply? error
- if I press this and select 'TelecomContent' I get ?Web: No gateway reply? error
- if I press this and select 'TelecomData' I get a log-in screen, and if I enter my mobile number I get a web paged that says 'Welcome - Error - sorry this feature is not enabled?'

Then - while researching this response I found a reference at http://www.geekzone.co.nz/neal... to telling that the correct url is http://pdaportal.telecom.co.nz... , so I tried this manually - and wow - I get a Telecom page when using 'TeleocmContent' - that is good - my first sight of that.
Maybe I need to know how to configure the button on an E71, and I am mostly happy?

Through this url I can now access most services, but still cannot read mms messages.

Ok so just to make it clear...

http://pdaportal.telecom.co.nz... is for handsets going through TelecomInternet & Wifi. This is also filtered so you won't get the Telecom services like buying ringtones, games, callertunes, mobile tv and music store etc

If you're happy going to http://pdaportal.telecom.co.nz... than that's fine, it depends on what you do with T-World and what works best for you :)

It sounds like your TelecomContent is not quite set up correctly. If you want to use all the Telecom Services best to contact 123 helpdesk and ask them to send the settings for Telecom Content to your phone again.

Any issues or queries let me know

Hmmm... nice helpful person number 3 understood, and she tried, but it would not work... said the push should happen within the next 30 mins, so will see what happens then....
Thanks again - I will report!

Ok cool - any problems let me know I can give you the details manually just seems much easier to get them sent to your phone :)

Not looking good - no change so far, and the 30 mins is well gone.
I have looked for a "download settings" option somewhere to initiate the download myself, but can't find one..... any next step?

Still not working, so looks like I need more guidance.
In a separate thread I asked if the E71 is supposed to be able to send MMS. No-one answered that, but I understand it should be able to.
My phone returns a fail error every time I try (after a few minutes) and I now suspect it is a further symptom of the same problem.. Is it looking for the same gateway when trying to send MMS? I also can't view MMS messages, so life is a little frustrating picture-wise.

Well, anyone left browsing this thread may be interested to hear the problem is solved.
After no progress through suggestions here I visited my friendly ?Leading Edge? Telecom store with the phone, and after a while it was identified there is a problem with the network settings for my phone number, not the phone. Putting my SIM in another phone transferred the problem to that phone, putting a new SIM in my E71 worked 100%

A call by the dealer to Telecom network support and they confirmed there was something wrong, causing access to the Telecom WAP server to fail. They set up a change to fix this, and I was told to expect it to work ?some time in the next 30 mins to 4 hours?

1 hr later I found all internet access failed (it was only the Telecom Content that failed until then). A call to the data helpline, (answered after 30 minutes queuing) had me making adjustments, that culminated in resetting the phone to factory defaults, an WOW! It is working!

So, although I had to set the phone up again from scratch after this reset, I am a happy customer.

A bonus is that I can now send and receive MMS, which I now know was a symptom of the same problem.

Interesting story. It must be the first time I read about some bad provisioning from the Telecom part. I usually read this on another telco. But it happens I guess.

Good that you have it sorted now.
