? Texting 0271234567 is considered national text and texting 271234567 is considered international text to south africa? Any ideas? Should not the network recognise that the 271234567 is a national # and not a # in south africa? BTW 27 is the country code for SA

I'm not sure what the problem is.

Why would you try and send a TXT in NZ without putting the 02x at the start? The 0 has always been required.

You can't ring somebody without putting the 0 at the front either.

This is seen to happen on WCDMA( as far as i know)..now i know that 0 in the front is always needed, but if a contact has been saved by mistake as 27...... and the text is sent, should not the SMSC recognise the missing 00 or + in front (for it to consider the SMS for international #)?
AND BTW, the recepient receives the sms.. only getting charged at intl SMS rates..

27 is the international calling code for Northern Cape, South Africa? Never heard of the place!

6427, +6427, or 027 will be recognized as national, 27 will be international as telecom wont "guess" what number you are trying to call, it will merely accept what you are instructing it to do, (which is what it should do)

I dont see the problem. If you told a taxi driver the wrong address and they had to drive a lot longer, then whose faults that?

I recommend you log a fault as the way you describe the issue it does not sound right. Feel free to email me any and all details as well. Include the fault number in your email to me.

Supposed to work like this;
+64 = national
02x = national
0064 = national
+27 = international
0027 = international

you should store all numbers in your contacts as +64271234567
That way when you roam overseas, your calls from nz will show the correct caller name from your phone's contacts list, and you can call back to nz direct from your contacts list.
