It looks like Telecom New Zealand's ferrit on-line shopping is live now.

As far as I can see it's not the trademe.co.nz competitor people were talking about. It's an on-line shopping centre, not an auction site with second hand goods (although sometime Trademe auctions are new items from retail).

Just a warning though: be careful not to enter the .com version of the site: it's NSFW or kids.

I'm not that impressed so far, I suppose we will see where it goes as time goes on. It was funny on the front page there was a porsche listed for sale I'm not sure how many takers you'll get

Just wrote something in my blog after going around the site.

It's actually "comparison shopping". They are not offering on-line sales yet. This is still handled by each individual store.

Not much different from the Xtra Shopping site, except that it looks like an attempt to create a brand, dissociated from the Xtra site so people don't think it's something available only to those Xtra users.

I think its okay.

'Look and feel' is a bit queer i think...

trademe for dirt cheap bargains for myself and secondhand items.
ferrit for new items that for various reasons i might not buy on trademe (or cant find).

I can seem me using this a lot, but they will need to get really innovative and user friendly really fast, and make it very easy for people (especially the stupid ones) to buy things.

Yeah - amusing that there is a Voda Mobile Connect Card for sale but then again Voda sell EVDO cards for roaming to the USA.... Not sure about the ferrit myself. I guess it is a similar concept to www.pricespy.co.nz

I like pricespy - very useful for computer bits.

So eventually you will be able to go to a Telecom owned website and pay that site for a Vodafone product... (and Telecom will make a cut on it)

Thats insanely funny!!

Check the movie sections (each Flash animation links to a different microsite related to ferrit.co.nz)...

Which begs the question - why in this day in age would you develop such a site when the .com links to porn? It's not as though they had a brand that they were developing an internet presence for, it was a brand new name!

this has been the subject of much debate, and there are a hundred very valid reasons why they -shouldnt- have done it.

But....................

When that part of the story breaks into mainstream media, then think of all the free publicity Telecom will get.

Heck, they may already have purchased the domain off the current owners and have given them a few months to vacate (baseless speculation on my part!!)
