Ever since we have gotten an XT phone, in the agreement or topup receipt there is a little paragraph saying credit will expire after X months if not used.

I know topup's expire over long periods of time, but what about if you topup your phone and do not use within X amount of months, do you loose it? Is this new with XT also.

=\ My Dad's confident this is what it means, if he does not use the credit on his phone in X amount of months then it will be deducted off his phone. TBH I wouldn't be surprised, while Telecom added a network they have had outages and increased prices on texting and taken away calling plans. =S

Thanks, Kris.

Nothing has changed other than XT moving to a 6 month expiry period rather than 12 months that CDMA had previously.

Yes, as will all mobile network carriers (to my knowledge, at least Telecom and the almighty Vodafone) your credit has en expiration date.

Why? There are probably many reasons, one I can think of is there have been several buy $20, get $20 free, buy $50, get $50 free deals, if one person bought $1000 of credit, they might not have to buy credit again for 10 years. Where as if it expired that credit would have to be used (albeit at an outrageous price per call & txt) within X months, usually 12.

Seems a rather forceful way to waste all your phone credit. =\

Credits do roll over tho, so if you top-up $50 on day 1, still have $30 6 months latter and top-up $20, then you would have $50 for another 6 months.

yes, AFAIK the credit itself does not expire, but rather the account itself expires if no topup is made during 6 months (and if the account expires so does the credit.)

IOW, as nzbnw says, as long as you top up at least onece every six months, then any unused credit from before stays on your account.
