I have been told that this phone is sim compatible.. is that true?? I realize they are two different network types, but I know someone who took their sim out of their vodafone phone and put it into their Telecom phone to get free texting on the weekends... is that possible?

Welcome to Geekzone... SIM cards are only used on GSM networks. Although there are a couple of dual mode phones, none is released here in New Zealand.

The official website says Nokia 6585 is CDMA only.

Nope, this is totally false.

Some CDMA handsets have a slot for a 'removeable user identification module' or 'RUIM' but, at the end of the day, it's still a CDMA handset. There is absolutely no way that you can use use a Nokia 6585 to connect to a GSM network.

[edit: I see Mauricio beat me to it. It seems I'm not the only one who's sad enough to be in front of the computer at midnight on a Friday. :)]
