I received the above model for an xmas present (i specifically 'wished' for a flip phone with a Camera!). So of course, the first thing i do (because I've never owned a pxt phone before) is take pictures.

So excited am I, that I test it out and send a pic to myself....

"Error. Please try later"

I'm thinking this is normal and people with pxt get this error all the time (the story ends soon....keep holding!). So after the 100th try over a 7 day period I decide to call the nifty *123 people and ask them WTF is up!!

I'm put on to a lovely young man over at faults. I explain the errors and he says:

"you don't have the new LG phone do you"?

"YES! YES I DO!" Getting all excited because he has abviously pinpointed the problem.....

"ahhhh"

...ahhh is not good. so my 'YES! YES I DO' outburst was short lived (really, this story does end soon)

the lovely young man informs me that the new LG phone is not compatible on the xtra network ...yet! It's fine to receive pxt, but sending them is not possible.

Shouldn't this be advertised along with the phone that PXT is not available?

I'm truly gutted as I cant send a pxt of my new shoes to my best mate :(

The nice young man at telecom gave no indication of when this problem would be fixed, but that they do have their oompa loompas on to it.

Please come, share your stories of PXT 'flustration'.....

Telecom NZ service is not called PXT this is a trade marked name by Vodafone.

but yes I agree I would not be happy and returning the handset for a device that worked!

the NX225 does have FULL MMS support. I hsve never had a issue with MMS on this handset to either network in NZ. The person you spoke to at telecom has been giving you some bad info.

Ring *123 from your mobile, press 0 then ask to speak to the data help desk and get them to fix it for you, If prepaid make sure you have some money on your phone. first question they will ask.

whoops..didnt know PXT was a vodafone thing...but i think you get what i meant?! :) what is the 027 alternative called? is it just Photo messaging

and skyplonk...it was *123 that I called....when I pressed 0 the lady put me through to faults, and all i told him was i was getting an error message when sending a pix, an he automatically assumed i had the LG. Ive tried sending to 021, 025, 027 and email...all have errors. Im able to receive, just can't send :(

very frustrating!!!!

thanks for your responses

Dont speak to faults. They are more for landline problems. Speak to the data helpdesk, and do not get of the phone until it is working. . . :)

PXT is the Vodafone trademark. The service is actually called MMS. Like TXT (another Vodafone mark) which is actually just SMS.

Contact Telecom again, as skyplonk says...

thnx freitasm for that. ive only ever been with vodafone. sorry for my ignorance regarding TM names...it doesnt help when the telecom guy advertising the 500 $10 txt deal is $10 TEXT and not $10 SMS....shlt is confusing yo! lol

ok.

i called the nice people on *123 and (as woman do) had a nice gossip session with the lovely customer service lady. Thankfully, for me, she had bought the same phone for her husband. His photo msging was working fine, so she knew what faults told me was somewhat WRONG!

she toodles off to ask about, to see what the problem is, and when they told her what the first guy had told me, she refused to listen and asked for a second opinion! She went straight to the [insert impressive technical position here] who deals directly with the problem my phone is having, and yes, there is a glitch. when the LG's are conencted to the netowrk, something is faulting (she managed to produce a better answer than teh one i leave here, i;m not the greatest at retaining information).

Expected as it is only new to the country, and ironing out the kinks is all part of the process.

So, in short, its more of a connection problem between LG and the telecom network, and although there is no definite ETA, she said somehwere mid january the problem should be fixed.

..guess, my friend will just have to see my new shoes in person. stink.

There are quite a few Telecom NZ people lurking around these forums - but since it's just before the New Year I think everyone is on holiday. I suggest you post again in this thread mid-January to bump it up - someone will probably notice it then.

The marketing guff for the NX225 clearly states that it supports Photo Messaging so, if it's not working, then Telecom would be guilty of false advertising. Armed with this knowledge, you should be able to pressure them to fix it ASAP if they don't deliver on their mid-January promise.

THat is strange, I have sold a dozen NX225's, and used one myself for a week or two and hand no issues with MMS on this handset. Could be a lightsurf based problem, maybe? As I know 2 people with lightsurf based handsets that are having a same sort of problem.

From memory lightsurf was on the receiving side?

I'd hazard it's a provisioning issue. When the phone was provisioned (connected) somewhere along the way the mms features weren't correctly enabled.

Try ringing the data support helpdesk directly - 0800 358 423, and give them a quick description that you're getting an error when you try to send pictures/mms. Then ask them to check the provisioning for mms.

Jp.

I have the exact same problem with my new phone except im not 100% sure if it can recive pics either!! DOes this basicly mean there is nothing we can do until they fix it? And how would we put pressure on them to get it fixed?

Does anyone else have info on this? I am getting the exact same issue with mine. I have worked out though that the phone will upload to online albums and you can send out from there. Is blinking annoying to have to do...
So worth phoning *123 or do we just wait for the "fix"

thanks

Anyone having a specific problem with the LG not being able to send or recieve photo messages should email me their mobile number (and state either prepaid, or name on the account if on a contract).

I will look into this for you.

[self edit: address removed, no longer require examples of this issue, thanks]
