So I have had 3200kbps downstream for my adsl since I shifted which has been fine until the last couple of days -  now the downstream rate is at 1400kbps... short of logging a fault with Telecom and then having to move off my bigtime plan - has anyone else noticed this happening since Telecom decided to take bigtime away?

I may be jumping to conclusions, but I would not be surprised if Telecom are slowing us down in order to get us off the plan.

How are you measuring this speed? Speed test or Sync Rate?

If it's a speed test what is your sync rate?

I'm not measuring speed - I am looking at my adsl modem downstream connection rate, as my adsl refers to it as.

The issue won't have anything to do with your plan. I'll assume you don't have a central filter installed - and will take a stab right now and say with probably 99% certaintly your issue is one of dodgy house wiring affecting ADSL performance.

What are the rest of your ADSL stats such as attenuation? Have you performed basic isolation tests and removed all filters and other devices?

Oh, im not saying it's my plan... not at all. All I know is that the connection has been fine until the last couple of days and I was curious to see if anyone else on bigtime had the issue... in case Telecom we doing something sneaky :)

Its all good... will just give them a call and see what they can do.

"Don't attribute to malice"... In the last couple of days we have seen a lot of rain. If your house is missing filters, this could affect any bad wiring you have and impact in the speeds.

Hence Steve's comments and questions...

Yep understand that... I didnt post this thread asking for help.

Like I said, was asking if others on bigtime had the issue.

Yes its called winter and a copper network in need of overhaul.

The only thing that wold affect your connect rate (from an easy enough to do but not really worth the effort point of view) would be a modification of the port profile, which would more hassle than its worth just to get you off Big Time.

At my last house I use to have massive problems with huge dropouts when the weather turned wet for more than a couple of days. Telecom came out, snipped off the last 20cm of the areal cable connecting our house and the problem went away.

It's nothing to do with Telecom closing down Big Time and everything to do with the quality of your house wiring and the phone line into the house.

How come then I just paid to have it all installed just over a month ago, surely the wiring would last longer than that??

Your scenario has been discussed numerous time before on here - you live on the very limits of ADSL coverage and also have obvious internal wiring issues, as was discovered when you removed filters and found your speed went up.

If you haven't had your internal house wiring issues fixed you really should do.

Who did the install? How do you know it wasn a hack job without quality control?

Just to jump in here, I have noticed a noticable drop in performence since the announcement was made, but I put that down to the fact that everybody and their dog is now downloading the internet 1 file at a time before BT is withdrawn.
