When I crossed to telecom big time about 6 months ago, I moved my pro flickr account to the comped account offered by telecom. Thats all sweet and great, as I had assumed I can move off it at anytime time and may as well make use of the discount.

However now bigtime is going; I have decided to change back to my old ISP, and telecom is offering no early termination fee because they have taken away the plan. Perfect.

But not quite, Flickr will not allow me to change my account back to my old yahoo id (or for that matter a new one). I can open the page to change the yahoo id attached the flickr account, but it won't do anything when I click on use and old ID, or create a new one. It just reloads the same page, and doesn't do anything else (on all 3 browsers i've tried Chrome/Firefox/IE). It's never had a problem before and I'm assuming it is doing it because I'm trying to move from a comped account.

I have over 2000 images backed up on Flickr; and prior to moving to the comped account my flickr account was paid through to 30th of January 2011. Looking back at it I should have never moved to the comped account, but I didn't realize it would lock me down. I do not want to lose this account, and would be looking for any help to fix this problem (and I know a couple of telecom employees check here :-P).

I have email Flickr with this situation, and am still awaiting reply.

You can keep your email address with Telecom for $2.81 a month...

I can't imagine that Flickr is truely stopping you from changing. Suggest you contact Flickr as they may be experiencing problems, thus why it didn't work with 3 different browsers. Have seen this before on other websites where they change something internally and then for some of us certain functions don't work. Good luck.

Would prefer not too, if at all possible as is only used for flickr, and only because it was the account that was comped. I assumed I could move off it like I moved onto it, and I wasn't locked down into it.

However if neccesary this is what I will do. I wonder if it would still be a comped flickr account? :-P

EDIT: Added quote I was replying to.

Flickr's response will be interesting, sounds like a bug/fault to me rather than lock in on purpose.

Also have you had a look at tools that allow you to migrate your stuff from Flickr to other services like Smugmug, Google Picasa etc?

This one for example

I believe that is no longer correct.  You must now have a dialup or broadband connection with Telecom to retain the email address.

JohnstonDJ: I suggest you log a fault so that you can transfer your flickr account out.

Hello Daniel,

Thank you for contacting Flickr Customer Care.

If you are going to lose the broadband partner email
address by which
you log into Flickr but would like to keep your Flickr
account, then be
sure to do the following:

1. Go to the "Your account / Your email address(es)" page,
and add at
least one alternative Yahoo! email address:

http://www.flickr.com/account/prefs/email/?from=email

2. Confirm it and then mark the new Yahoo! email address as
your primary
address.

3. After you cancel the broadband partner email account,
please write
back to us, and we'll unmerge your broadband partner email
account from
your Flickr account so you can use your new Yahoo! ID.

Thank you again for contacting us. If you have any other
questions,
please feel free to reply to this email.

Regards,

Sabrina

Can be done, but seems like it has to be done manually. At least it will get done. :-)

I wonder if they stopped allowing users to do this themselves due to some accidental account-name/address double-ups?

User A changes provider/email address but doesn't update flickr account; some time later User B changes to the provider that User A left and picks up same email address that User A had previously then runs into trouble when tries to associate it with their flickr account... Plausible scenario?
