10:06pm, just getting ready to go to bed comes a phone call...

[Caller] My name is [something I can't remember since I am mad now]. I am from Telecom and we want to make a survey.

[Me] Look, it's 10pm could you please call tomorrow during business hours?

[Caller] Sorry, we only work from 6pm to 11pm. Just a few questions. What's your ISP?

[Me]Thanks, but I will pass the survey.

[Caller] No, you don't want to do that. You want to answer the survey. It's a good survey. What's your ISP?

[Me] [put phone on hook]

A survey at ten in the evening? Really Telecom? And someone who doesn't understand "NO"?

That is bad! I thought they were try to IMPROVE their public image - not obliterate it!

It's worse than HVS who keep ringing me every 6 weeks. They seem to know when I'm home for lunch!!! Have asked them not to call so next time they're going down!...

The NZMA (NZ Marketing Association) says these types of calls should be done between 8am -> 8:30pm. 10pm is just too late and anoying.

I presume you don't know if its was actually Telecom or some overseas telemarketing company? Valid CID?

The other thing that really annoys me, is almost everytime I visit their website, I receive a popup requesting that I complete a survey and offer feedback. Almost discourages me from visiting their website and looking at their product offering.

Maybe the caller is a Jedi!!!

It's a good survey. ?

[Mauricio] What? You think you're some kind of Telemarketing Jedi, waving your words around like that? I'm the Geekzone Admin. Mind tricks don't work on me. Only inducements. No inducements, no survey, no deal!

This is why we have things like VoIP phone lines which can automatically send calls to voicemail after a certain hour on particular days of the week to suit your lifestyle.

If the person calling was important enough to me then they'd be calling my private cell phone number.

I wonder if his response was from the script, or if he was utilising artistic licence.

He might have been right, maybe the whole survey consisted of 1 question and all he wanted to know was your ISP. How rude you are stopping important research like that! :-p

Well, a google search seems to suggest it is a skype caller.

Maybe Telecom are going to use skype for the NGN and they just wanted to test it on you. :-)

I have had that a week ago, from Kiwibank though, asking me about my health insurance.

Was at 10:30pm, it woke me up. Told them to bugger off and ring me the next day.
They did, at 9pm, seems it's getting worse. I now have my phone block calls from people not in my phonebook between 9pm to 8am.

If you get a call like this, make sure you tell them clearly that you are not interested and you do not want to be called again.

If they call you again they are liable for a fine, it is illegal.

So the second time they call, get all the details you need (im sure they'll happily give it to you) and find out the right people to contact.

That's what ill be doing anyway.

To be honest this does not sound right so I will see what I can find out.

I would be pissed as well.

He said "[blah] from Telecom" but I think Telecom would have used a local call centre - if anything but an Australian number. But who knows?

In reality this guy could be from any other telco/ISP or just trying a scam...

I should have worked him up and get all the information before telling him to get off my lawn... But in the middle of the night I am in no mood for that.

Yeah sounds a bit strange... Not normally something Telcom would do.
Well at least not that late at night..

How annoying! :(
