Anyone having probs with telecom broadband Thursday night?

PPP authentication is failing for me, my connection is down for over 1/2 hour now.

Tried the usual , rebooting modem etc, get the adsl sync, but ppp auth fails.

Annoying, trying to do some work.

My vodafone 3g kind of works ok, but drops my vpn connection occasionally.

did you try re-entering in the details into the modem?

I know how you feel though, sucks when you need to do work and it doesnt work for you.

You connected now?  You called the helpdesk?

Yep, phoned help desk after doing the normal recovery attempts, such as reboots etc.

Anyway, they said they had no idea of the problem, and ordered me to perform a variety of circus acts before they'd investigate further.

After all the stupid things they asked me to do failed, they said they'd escalate the problem and would phone me the next day!!

As I was about to give up, the ppp started working (out for 1.5hours or so) and all was good again. So , I assume some kind of telecom fault .

I wouldn't have bothered at all, if my 3g vodafone connection could hold a stable vpn link.   But, for some reason, my cisco vpn client would fail every 5 minutes or so over vodafone 3g.  Webbrowsing was fine, just the vpn could not maintain a connection , guessing that vpn's need more reliable data stream quality.

I find the two issues you may have is if the vodafone keeps on swapping between 2g/3g.  Make sure your card is configured to 3G only if you can.

Plus try using the "internet" apn.

Doing both of those sorted my problem (before I got moved to XT Data, which I have found rock solid)
