Anyone have an Android Phone supplied directly by telecom? Interested in if they have loaded any kind of custom ROM on it of sorts, or whether its the stock ROM from the manufacturer with no additions.

Addtionally, i didnt think this warranted an extra thread because the source is so weak, but a post over on GPForums mentions the Galaxy S. This makes sense as its known to be a very good handset and fills a gap in their range.
WeedWacker:
I have a very creditable contact through Telecom, he is currently testing an XT model and says that they will be available early October.

I was in Amsterdam when they had the Galaxy S release party ... looked pretty fancy, from the outside, they wouldn't let me in :( .

Using the Motorola Milestone now. No third party software, except for the Telecom configuration, a couple of shortcut to the Telecom mobile portal and the browser homepage.

Thats the info i was interested in. I assume it still won't be generic enough to receive WWE (world wide english) updates (ie carrier specific still required?)

I have one as well to try out for a week.

Is yours running 2.1-Update1?
Build: SHOLS_U2_02.34.3?

What do you think? The only other Android phone I have tried from Telecom was the LG, which was nice - but the touch sensitive buttons were pretty annoying.

I like how it slides apart. A very firm click-clack feel.
Motorola Phone Portal = useless.

Here are some sample pics and a video.

While I don't like phones with slide-out keyboards, the one on the Milestone feels reliable. The layout isn't that great, though; I didn't like the D-pad on the side.

Just adding another comment to that since I went for a long walk with it today.

The slide opens constantly in my pocket. Not hugely annoying, but I had to remove it from my pocket whenever I got back in my car.
I quite like the D-Pad for browsing.

More from that guy over at GPForums, i wonder if this is true...

WeedWacker: I don't want to spill the beans, but heres something I can say for the XT model.

The Samsung i9000 S is on the roadmap, for an October public release.
The Samsung Galaxy i9000 S has been built to run on the XT frequencies, I know of one currently being tested on the XT network. No - its not the Samsung Captivate.

I'm very excited about this, its a very credible source...

Even if this is true (Which I hope it is) I wouldnt believe Telecom releasing it early october. They said the Milestone will be out July 1st (I think??). Its not August the 8th and it hasnt been released to the general public.

So my guess would be late october/early novemeber

I hope im wrong though. I hope they release it early october :)

Telecom are indeed testing the Galaxy S, but I have no idea if/when they are releasing it.

Any idea what goes on in the testing process? This is a model that's been very successful overseas. What exactly are they checking?

It is being tested and it is expected around October, heard from someone on the inside. However, Vodafone is currently showing it on their website, maybe different variant on each carrier, similar to the Galaxy release in the states?
