So, I'm at my wits end with my current ISP's performance both with the service and also their lack of communication.

Can someone who uses Telecom ADSL2+ pass any reviews here  with regards to using a plan such as the PRO Plan (https://www.telecom.co.nz/broadband/select/1,10627,205728-204466,00.html?action=/plan&detail=9) for playing games such as SC2 and WoW, as well as Ventrilo etc.?

It would be much appreciated to get the actual views of Wellywood people using such a plan with said provider  :)

I'm on the PRO plan, connected at 23mbit to a cabinet

I get full speed 24/7 and low latency, with interleaving off

Takapuna, Auckland, connected to the exchange.

14Mb, ping about 18ms with interleaving off, fast consistent speeds.

Runs rings around Orcon when we had them as our ISP.

Also on the Pro plan.

Currently with Orcon.
VERY inconsistant with no indication of improvment any time soon.  They seem to roll excuse after excuse month by month with why their service sucks.  When it improves it's good, but it rarely lasts long at all.

I guess I am trying to establish if you were on a a wholesale or purple connection, and obviously the former.

I have been back with Telecom for sometime now and whilst not on a pro plan I have been more than pleased with the service, kids who hammer Xbox Live seem to be able to kill everone in their way, so guess they have not stuck any latency issues.

Edit, woa what happened there, your post (rant) dissapeared.

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

Sorry ... I removed that post as I have done my fair share of ranting over on the "Orcon is slow thread" and others.

In a nutshell, they used to be good regardless of plus or non plus plans.  I'm not on a plus plan, nor do I have that option yet. They didn't even have plus plans when I started with them (maybe 4+ years now?).  My local exchange connects me at ADSL2+ goodness, yet beyond there it's all Orcon.  I guess I'm meant to be with Telecom maybe?  heh

I'm not sure Orcon even have any plans to extend their infrastrcuture beyoind Courtenay Place here in Wellywood, but regardless, they seem to be suffering as a provider and it doesn't look good to me -  oversubscription, technology plans being canned by Kordia, other things etc ...

Thanks all for the responses so far.  It just strengthens my future choices Smile
