Just purchased a Sanyo 7500 and am quite disappointed with the quality of Telecom's Video Clips service. Okay, maybe on 1xRTT patchy quality is acceptable, but streaming on an EVDO phone should be hot! - shouldn't it? I see no improvement from the 7400's clip quality... should I?

I am not aware of a 7500 doing anything to improve video quality over a 7400...

Still the same video file streaming over the same network isnt it?

Yes but the 7500 is an EVDO phone (i.e., capable of speeds up to 2mbit), whereas the 7400 is just a standard 1x...

From what I was told all of Telecom's video clips are optimized for somewhere around 100kbps to give the same quality whether the user be in an EVDO or 1X coverage area. This would mean there is no difference in video quality, the only noticeable difference should no rebuffering in an EVDO area, something that can occur in 1X coverage areas if the site is busy.

The whole video service is a bit of a have really. I had a 5600 for a while and all the videos were totally pixelated - watching one weather you could hardly make out that it was New Zealand. Perhaps we might get one of the new broadcast TV services that are just starting to come online elsewhere. Hopefully that will have a better (watchable) picture quality.

DVB-H is still the best option rather than trying to stream stuff over the mobile network. Unfortunately there are no plans for DVB-H in New Zealand at this stage and there would need to be chanegd to our exiting UHF TV channels for DVB-H to be even trialled in NZ.

DVB-T on the other hand is available in Auckland now and hopefully may be in some other centres such as Wgtn and Chch hopefully within the next year.

On my previous phone (7400) on the weather you could read the city names, and the temperatures... it was great.
