Hi,

has anybody found a way to use Xtramail on a Harrier or Apache properly?

I'm trying to use Xtramail from an Apache. The same problem affects a Harrier I have tried too.

Because Xtramail uses frames, when you log in from the Apache you only get the main frame (Inbox) but lose the navigation pane normally available so can't get to the "Sent", "Saved", "Deleted", "Draft" folders or Address Book etc. This rather cripples the functionality.

I know you can access the POP mailbox using the Apache, but that's not easily available in places where Telecom doesn't have data roaming (most of the world it seems).

Is there some way to set up the Apache/Harrier etc to get the normal functionality of Xtramail - or a workaround that someone knows of in Xtra?

If your Xtra account allows POP access from external networks you could try mail2pda.com.

webmail adds overhead of images etc, and is likely to be mucg slower and frustrating (e.g. hit reply, and wait a number of seconds for the page load and then have to scroll before beginning typing etc...).

I would set up a gmail account, then set your xtramail to forward all mail to it, then you will have pop access worldwide.

You can set your from/reply to address to still be xtramail if you so choose.

If you set your reply address to gmail, and discontinue giving out your xtramail address, then you will eventually end up fully using a mail service that doesnt require you to be a paying customer, and has some great features, including very good spam filtering.

You could try other mail providers too.

If you need a gmail invite you can PM me with your email address.

Gmail pop works well on Apache.

What a great concept, but it showed me mail from six months ago on page one.... (and only one of the dozens of new emails I have today alone.)

I use gmail on my 6265. Its not cheap i know, but handy when im out. Gmail is my only address, so using up about 1Gb of my allowance so far. Got 2years worth of emails at least. 90% of them are probably geekzone post notifications, ereything goes to archive after being downloaded by pop.

I love having everything stored. Geekzone post notifications go straight to trash cause I read nearly everything on here anyway.

I love being able to go into Gmail from anywhere and find any email (including contact details for people from ages ago).

I almost exclusively use the webmail login now, its faster than outlook to load, and just as fast for a page load when replying,forwarding,composing etc. I love the address autocomplete. I used to be a webmail hater/wrecker, but the Gmail team have done such a great job.

I was playing round with this on my harrier and I found a way to get to my drafts, sent etc...(very roundabout) if i take an email in the inbox and go save to folder it then gives me an option to search my folders so if im searching for a particular email in my sent I can bring it up by subject or name of sender.

very roundabout but it works!
