Just checking Telecom site today and see the phone is now finally available!!
http://store.telecom.co.nz/mobile/pay-monthly/motorola-milestone#special-offer-tab

Apologies in advance if someone has mentioned it already today but couldn't see any notes recently in either Android or Telecom forum.

Still won't be rushing out to buy one!

Yep, I am in front of a window here with a poster and demo unit.

I wonder if the rumoured problems were fixed and if so where can I download the fix to my demo unit?

I'd be interested in any comments you have Mauricio, about possible fixes to issues that have been raised in the past.  Obviously most of the "negatives" (as per your anothers' reviews) aren't going to be fixed by a software update - but my problem is I am upgrading a work phone so am not "allowed" to be in the business of  modifying non-Telecom phones to use on the company's network.

What I am still keen to hear of is any news on possible Samsung Galaxy release dates on Telecom, but depending on that progress, may still have to make a decision shortly about whether to go for the Milestone as the back-up option!

I tried a Milestone for a week recently. I didn't have any problems other than having to recharge it daily, a far cry from my old E71 at about once a week. I know its not a fair comparison.

If you're interested in conserving battery life, rooting gives you more options. I'm running SetCPU which underclocks the phone when not in use, and also an undervolted kernel on my HTC Desire to further conserve battery as much as possible.
Custom brightness tables are possibly also for the auto brightness feature on some custom ROMs.

An app which doesnt require root is Tasker which is useful for automating tasks, such as auto turning on and off GPS when you enter and exit maps for example. Plenty of triggers, locations etc which you can setup to help optimize when things are turned on and off. I have mine set to turn on wifi when at work, as an idle wifi connection uses less battery than an idle data connection.
