Hi there, my first post so be gentle. I have a Nokia 6265 and bought a 1gb minisd card for it, however it comes up as unformatted in the phone menu. Is this as simple as putting the minisd into a laptop and right clicking on it and formatting it?

My laptop doesn't have any SD ports, but have easy access to one.

Yup - that should be all you need.
You can buy the adapter quite cheap if you want to have one of your own...

You can format it in the phone.

Go to galley, highlight memory card -> options -> format memory card

Ok, so the formatting didn't work. I looked at the original Nokia 64mb card and it appears exactly the same in the computer as the 1gb, but the phone insists that the card is unformatted.
Anymore help?

It's not coming up at all in the gallery, that's problem. The acknowledgement the phone has of the card is under the mmory status.

What's the miniSD brand? Other people here have had problems with a certain brand and the problems went away when changing brands.

Google is your friend and the first discussion I found was this one.

That sounds rather good!

Just a hint.....imation cards dont work in nokia 6265's. If yours is an imation, take it back and swap it for a kingston

Yawn, I think it's Sandisk, either way. It seems that a swap is the only solution, though as I do not have the original packaging, I fear I may be out of pocket.

You dont need original packaging, just proof of purchase. Take it back and tell them it doesnt work. Thats all thats needed. Make sure you can test one in your phone while in the shop.

You need to format the card as FAT12 or FAT16 not as FAT32...

Q: Did you format the card in the PC at all?

If yes, You need to borrow a Digital camera that uses Blue SD memory cards (MMC works in these) and format the card in that using the cameras menu function.

or get a "formatting tool" for the PC...

I used a formatting one for the "gamepark32" which is intended for Smartmedia but should work fine wih MMC/SD/SDmini. Ensure you get the Drive letter correct,, double cheak or you will lose a hard drive! I used this tool to flash one for a Nokia N-Gage GameDeck to run p1rated roms.

Game Park Smartmedia Fat16 Formatter.
