My computer is quite new, a Dell Studio XPS, i7 processor, tons of RAM, Windows 7 64 bit, almost state-of-the-art, and performs flawlessly on a myriad of other tasks including full on HD video rendering. Using this very same computer I uploaded three video files to Vimeo of not inconsiderable size using the old Sierra Wireless device on the CDMA network; slow but rock-solid with no mishaps whatsoever. I have not been able to upload videos using the XT network using either the original Telecom branded USB device manufactured by ZTE nor with the newly acquired C885 Sierra Wireless device, although the later is more reliable than the Telecom branded device in that I do not incessantly get disconnected. With the C885 device I have only been disconnected twice in a week, so that’s a significant improvement, and I am grateful for small mercies

I have conducted speed tests using various online sites including the Telecom speed test.  They all report the same thing; no uploading happening and the test stalls out.

I believe I have been patient, even good-natured about the problems, I continue to pay my Telecom bill in total (despite what appears to be overcharging). I have spent an inordinate amount of time ‘on hold’ and my calls for problem solving have been entirely consistent with the persistence of the problem. The Philippines based help desk has been courteously unhelpful, totally, while the Telecom faults people seem to be doing their best (although their ingratiating over-use of my name during conversations is nauseating and counter-productive). The latest encounter ended with the Telecom representative promising to investigate and would get back to me, probably not for a week, he said. And I do get the feeling that the Telecom folks are being slightly less than honest with me, but that's just a feeling.

In the meantime I’m crippled.

I thought I would ask here if anyone has any suggestions or comments regarding what is happening. Your input shall be gratefully received.

Cheers

Ask @telecomNZ on Twitter.

Crazy suggestion I know, but they seem to have some very clueful people attached to the account who might be able to help you.

Odd advice I know, but hey. See if it helps.

Audiophiles are such twits! They buy such pointless stuff: Gold plated cables, $2000 power cords. Idiots.

OOOHHHH HYPERFIBRE!

Let me know the fault number and I'll see what I can find out.

So Telecom are now looking at this problem albeit with all sorts of (defensive) qualifiers but at least they are on the job. I can surf the Internet but uploading even small jpg’s even as an email attachment is not possible

I know this is a long shot but is there anybody out there:

1)  Located anywhere in New Zealand uploading large video files to Vimeo and or youtube using a 64 bit Windows 7 computer using the XT network and or

2) Located in the Duvauchelle, Barry’s Bay, in fact anywhere at the north end of Akaroa harbour uploading either jpg’s and or large video files to wherever using the XT network.

I would be delighted to hear from you. If anyone has any idea why I can’t upload, with the focus on what I might be doing wrong (versus a network problem) then likewise, I would be delighted to hear from you.

Many thanks...

I am based in Wellington and have very reliable uploads speeds ~200-300kb/s.

I would try out a different datacard if you can, since I have had a number of weirdness problems with the MF626/636's.  Plus if you can get a XT Ethernet router much like what I have then they work a lot better from experience than the USB dongles if your windows build is slightly dodgy due to lots of apps or running other background programs

All I can say is the Sierra Aircards are the far superior cards than the ZTE ones, the Sierra Aircard 885's which are the USB, or 880 which is a PCMCIA + a $15 PCMCIA to PCI adapter are often on Trademe.

Time for closure reporting on this thread I began. Thanks everyone for the input. I never did solve the uploading problem and the short solution, given that I am semi-resident here at the Holiday Park I purchased a telephone line which terminated in a small storage room. I set up a modem and a long liine of Cat5e cable to a NanoStation 2 mounted out on the fascia board up at the roof peak. I installed the new Engenius USB adapter in my computer and signal strength is 'excellent'.

So now I have a new wireless connection, faster and much cheaper than the XT network and so far it is solid (unlike my experience with the XT network). And I am able to upload, no problem.  I never did believe my computer was crippled uploading-wise.

Telecom's XT network has room for improvment, everyone knows that, but for regular Internet lite connectivity, surfing the web on the go, it's not a bad product, overpriced but what isn't anymore.

I totally expect high speed broadband Plus Internet Connectivity anywhere, everywhere, and all the time, for everyone, and for next to nothing; an inalienable human right.

Cheers...

i have the same gear & similar probs, but i can email quite large files of approx 4mb (win7 & thunderbird ) i can upload pictures of about 250k before it stalls out
and dont get me started about youtube etc, sometimes it works a treat then other times it only plays 10sec chunks, while a friend with adsl up the road can watch just fine at the same time..
is there a work-around?

Hi Everyone

Has anyone found a solution to this problem? I am having the same problem with a clients computer - he can't upload any photos to his blogging site unless he resaves them under a meg. He didn't have any problem doing this through his old CDMA connection (although it was bloody slow!) , but now that he has a new computer and XT connection, it has stopped working. There is another quirk - he can't listen to any internet radio stations. Upload and download speeds are great, in the case of the large photos it very quickly gets to 13% and then stops.

Brand new, i5 processor with 4 gig ram, windows 7 32bit,
Ericsson W35 connection box
Chrome and IE (9 i think)

Since the connection is from a boat he will be using different cell sites, so can test different areas

Cheers

Rob

I too have found that I can't do any "large" uploads. recently I tried to email a 4 meg video file off my ph, but after many repeated attempts I gave up. I switched to WiFi and emailed it out without any problems. At the time I thought the problem was off my doing but after reading this thread, I am now thinking it is the XT network (which I love BTW)

Sounds a bit weird to me as I semi-frequently upload and download large files (400mb+) and work from home over VPN and transfer large files without a single dropout or issue.

It could be related to a particular cell-site or a hardware/software fault with your equipment.

If you could log a case via 120, and also get a Wireshark LAN Trace showing the issue when trying to upload the issue and either PM me or e-mail it to me at first.last @ telecom.co.nz using my full name and include the case number.  I will forward it onto the relevant support person who is working on the case. Happy to review the lan trace and see what could be untoward going on.

However logging a case via 120 is essential first to get the case properly tracked via faults.

I have uploaded many 250ish meg videos over 3G using another android phone as a mobile hotspot.

The thing is youtubes uploader seems to be able to stop and retry so I have no idea if that was happening or not as even over wifi the uploader has massive fluctuations in its progress bar going forward.
