Has anyone had any success with converting an existing name@xtra.co.nz email alias converted into a stand alone account, or having the alias forward to another xtra email address?

I have been told by level 1 it cannot be done and have ended up with a name1@xtra.co.nz instead.

Comments welcome :)

Are you creating it as a sub-account or are you wanting to create a totally separate dial up account? Is it an alias or a sub-account?

You should be able to delete the alias and then the username becomes available. As far as I am aware sub-accounts can't be deleted due to them being created in a similar fashion to a stand alone account.

I have deleted an alias and created it as a sub-account successfully, but I have heard that it can be hit and miss.

You can do as above - delete the alias and create as a sub account - however if the username contains non RFC compliant set up like m..a..r..k or m*ar*k  the alias cannot be created as a sub account, or restored as an alias. http://telecom.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1501

You can delete an existing Alias and recreate it as a Sub Account if  it conforms to the follow rules:

  • Between 3 and 32 characters in length.

  • Contains only the following characters:

    • Letters: a-z in either upper or lower case,

    • Numbers: 0-9,

    • Underscore (_)

    • Dot (.)

  • Does not start with a number

I am trying to turn an existing alias into a sub account.

Will give http://telecom.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1501 a go - thanks for the input so far!

Perfect - this has worked - thanks heaps!

So much for "it cannot be done" from level 1 :)
